Iowa and the West

How did Wisky beat MSU that bad when Taylor didn't do much?
I watched the game. They have speed on defense sideline to sideline. They get after the QB. Their secondary lays the lumber to people. They force turnovers. They understand their assignments, contain when necessary, and get aggressive when necessary.

I watched their games with Michigan and NW as well. They toyed with Michigan like they were a bunch of puppies. If their d-backs didn't get careless with a couple targeting calls they would have shut them out too.

One of the reasons their defense is so good is because they are well rested. The offense dominates time of possession. Which leads to better defense, which takes pressure off the offense, let the vicious cycle begin.

We will struggle to get a first down on them, let alone score, if the offense keeps playing like this. They will beat tOSU. Book it!

The only way we win in Madison is if Taylor coughs it up a couple times and Coan throws a couple picks.
We wouldn't take advantage of that. We might get a field goal if they turned it over 4 times. We have 2 touchdowns in the last 12 quarters of play agains P5 opponents.

I'm still not sure this offense could beat them. They had around 5 starters out last year on defense and still beat us. They are much better this year, and we are even worse on offense, which I can't believe that is even possible.

They have the best QB they've had since Wilson. Basically he hits the easy throws he's asked to and doesn't make mistakes. And their WR group is a lot better than what they're used to.

I've never seen a qb in a big ten game even against a good d like msu have that much time to throw. And since they had so many guys in the box, and still he had all day, his wide receivers had one on one coverage all over the field and he had some easy pitch and catch. QB looked good, he had no one on him, and I mean, no one.

Yeah I didn't even get around to the offense. Coan is definitely better than Hornibrook or Stave. Their offensive line was getting a decent push often enough to get into second and short. Ferguson has emerged as a serviceable TE. I think they underutilize their WR's considering how easily they could use play action as a weapon.

I don't care who or where they've played. Michigan and Sparty are not chopped liver. They are outscoring their opponents by an eight to one margin and their offense averages 35-40 minutes on the field. If they don't turn it over, their going to be tough to beat.

Really? A lot of guys on here said the guy sucks before...

I think that was a lot of wishful thinking when posters still thought Iowa had a chance against them.

He's nothing to write home about. If the game was on his shoulders I would feel nervous as hell if I was a Badger fan. But they're used to Horni and Stauve running their O. Now they have a QB that can actually hit a short slant or a comeback and pick up 3rd and mediums. In their offense that's all they need.

I think they hang with Ohio St. Beat them, maybe. But with Taylor, they can keep the Ohio St. offense off the field.

I dread that Wiscy game. Then again, KF always wins one he shouldnt.

Yes, maybe KF gets the win he isn't supposed to, but maybe that was the ISU game.

The best offensive team Wisconsin has played to date is Michigan, who comes in at 32 on offense according to Massey. You’ve seen Michigan’s offense when they played Iowa. Both of UW’s tough games to date have been at home, they go to Columbus.

Ohio State is a completely different animal on offense. The strength of UW’s defense is their front 7 in their 3-4 scheme. Ohio State spreads you out and exposes your backend players. Ohio State will give the badgers a humbling.

I'll give Wisconsin credit. They're 3-0 on a B1G schedule in which Iowa would probably be 0-3. Extremely impressive on both sides of the ball but all of their B1G games have been at home against average at best QBs. NW's 3rd stringer threw for 100 yards on them in 1 quarter so I'd be interested in how they do against a decent QB.

But outside of Ohio St, Indiana, PSU, & Minnesota the B1G doesn't have a lot of teams with a good passing game. Purdue if they get their QB back but he might be out for the year.

Do you actually believe that Iowa would be 0-3 with Wisconsin’s B1G schedule to date? If so something isn’t adding up. Why the heck is Iowa still ranked?

Wisconsin has been amazing this year and appear to be destined for Indy.

Let’s see him in a hostile environment on the road. They haven’t played away from Madison since brutal South Florida on Labor Day weekend

I just think that Michigan, MSU, & NW are all tougher and smarter teams than Iowa and would beat even with the games being played in Kinnick. MSU and NW have won their last 2 games there. Dantonio and Fitz has zero fear playing there.

I said this in another post but Iowa tries to live up to this tough, physical, smart football identity they built 10 years ago but its gone. They're still very tough on D but when you take a look at their losses over the last several years, a clear pattern is forming.

Can't handle physical teams (NW, PSU, MSU, WIS) at all on the LOS, they can run on Iowa but Iowa can't run on them. Careless turnovers and mistakes. Iowa used to own physical teams. They would invite that kind of fight.

Time will tell. It's difficult to expose Wisconsin's backend players, or any part of their defense, when they're seldom on the field.

We were bottling up Penn State's ground game early, but they were wearing us down in the fourth quarter and the RB was powering through solid tackles and moving the chains.

That's an onimous sign. We could really use a clone of Shonn Greene in the worst way. One to do that to other teams and two to give our defense a break
