Iowa and The Portal.

The portal is now a leveraging tool for players to get or increase NIL. There are no guard rails for this entire thing.

I wish it was more transparent...just like free-agency and the transaction game has become just as compelling in the NBA as the actual games, and I think CFB fans would drool over NIL content.

We do? How so?

I was thinking he was a SR, too, but apparently just a JR!

I have always liked Patterson, for how hard he runs on the field, and for how much he seems like a team-oriented dude. That is a lot of young talent in the RB room. Would anyone be surprised if McNeil was the man, next year?

Just my opinion but RB is not a position I would spend much time on. WE lose Jazz but we still have Doll and some new guys plus the three that had time this year. I think they need to focus on OL/DL line depth, A WR with return experience and some secondary depth which seems like we always need. Not sure where Iowa sits on roster numbers but not sure how crazy they can really get barring a ton of guys leaving.
Patterson has another year unless he's leaving in the portal.

What do most teams do with NIL and returning players? Do they wait for guys to get offers from other schools, and then try to compete with it (that is how it works in many sectors)? Are most teams pro-actively taking care of their own to promote culture and retention?

I honestly have no idea how programs handle returning players and NIL, and I would be curious to know more.
I think this is the issue. Anyone remember all the drama with Nico Lamaleava and Tennessee? Balked at his NIL deal and then went fishing to Oregon and Dan Lanning. Lanning called Huepel and both washed their hands of him. Ended up at UCLA, and with a new coach, who knows if he stays.

I'm curious where some coaches stand when a player dips his toe in the NIL to see if he can make more money but then retracts and wants to continue his college career with the program. It would make me question one's loyalty to the program and not sure I would want them back. However, when the player is a playmaker, I suppose you bite the bullet.

Biggest issues I see are the agreements made by NIL and the player. Apparently not a binding contract? Or is it? Seems like they are easily broken and one can play "Let's make a deal" with another school with no issue or penalty.

I can't recall the details but Georgia is suing one of their former recruits over payments he received right before he entered the portal and transferred to Mizzou. IF they win, it could set precedence over future issues with this.

And in the case with Matt Campbell, he wanted more money dispersed to his players in lieu of only paying certain players. I think that was some of the riff with he and Pollard. Allegedly Penn State pays all their players from top to bottom. I assume the payments vary.

I think I kinda follow KF's idea of what the NIL was. All players receiver equal payments or at least get paid. Granted, that requires a large amount of revenue. And for some programs is unrealistic.

I haven't seen that anywhere, googled it and couldn't find anything.
I saw it somewhere but have listened to a couple of Kirk's recent interviews and he said as of that time (Yesterday) they had their full roster besides Stratton so maybe it was false or he changed his mind?

There was a Josh Patterson from Iowa St. that entered the portal (DB).

University of West Florida...Div II. Not FCS...Div II. Why would we be recruiting a DIV II QB?
Now I remember this Marcus Stokes kid. Was like the 14th best QB prospect his senior year and was a Florida commit I believe. Made some Tik Tok reciting some rap lyrics and dropped the "N bomb" while singing, and got some heat over social media because the kid is white. Got his scholly pulled and everyone backed away. Ended up at West Florida. Didn't do a lot his freshman year but tore it up this year. Dual threat QB.

Isn't it pretty transparent? I mean one can go to a site and see all the players that are in it along with potential $ amounts they might get.

Do you know what Iowa's total pool is? Do you know how much each player on the team gets? Do you know how big their offers to targets are?

I don't know any of that stuff, and I have no idea if that info is available somewhere.

Pavia started at a JUCO and there have been other examples. Maybe he was a late bloomer. Lots of cases of DIII guys going to the NFL as well as DII so there is talent at those levels
Disagree. There may be some that go to the NFL from Div II or III but not a lot. There are many more from good JUCO's going to the NFL than Div II or III. Actually, Div1 teams don't really pull any players from Div II or III. Once you choose Div II or III, you are pretty much going just to play because you like football while staying and getting a 4 yr degree from said school. JUCO guys are often highly rated guys who either have to work on grades or get their shit straightened out and/or underrecruited players. You have 4* guys at JUCOS. JUCOS often have Div1 program coaches visiting seeking out potential recruits. Iowa Western have had many players go on to Div1 and some in the NFL.

Now you have the very rare players making at splash in the NFL, like Coe College's Fred Jackson and Carey Bender who played in the NFL at RB, but those are few and far between.
