Iowa-Penn State drew 15,077, Ohio State drew 14,169 for the season.

Iowa's average attendance was greater than the total attendance for all but 6 other schools.

Those are impressive numbers for the Hawks.

Now for the negative. I have a feeling that the IOC is looking at these numbers when it comes to whether or not to keep wrestling in the Olympics. Although I can't say I've ever heard people clamoring to watch the modern pentathlon, nor have I ever seen it on TV.

While it's too late to do anything about it this season I would encourage the wrestling community to get out and support the local college wrestling program so that they can get those attendance numbers up and prove to the IOC that wrestling DOES matter and it deserves to be in there.

ESPN did mention that low TV viewership in the 2012 games influenced the IOC's decision. To me, a big reason for low viewership is that it wasn't promoted by the networks. I would have watched it if I could, but I could never find it on. I did get to see water polo quite often, and was even able to watch trampoline, but never did see any wrestling. Trampoline? Really?

i'm sure trampoline, and (in the winter olympics) curling both are non-existent in spectator sports as well. not sure why a very new, yet fringe sport gets in at the expense of one of the first ever sports in the olympics. i get that some people just hate wrestling and love to pile on those of us who like it, but if you can step back and use some perspective, it really doesn't make any sense.

Totally agree. Although from what I hear curling does have a following in Canada, not like hockey, but still a following.

Would still rather watch wrestling than most of the sports in the summer games.
