Iowa AD doesn't discount possibility of Hawkeye-Cyclone clash ending

I agree with #1, that is a great point. But #2, I don't understand. Iowa normally schedules multiple cupcakes (usually 3 - at least 1 FCS, agreed usually all at home) plus then ISU alternating home and away each year.

If they are worried about losing a home game, then they can schedule an Arkanasa state or Central Michigan or both they don't lose those home games because Iowa has away games against those schools. Plus if Iowa adds 2 more conference games, then that is 1-1 it would most likely be 1 home and 1 away, not 2 away. Then that is up to 5 home, 5 away games in conference, so those games will most likely be sell outs, true sell outs not an FCS opponent where they count tickets sold, not who is in the stadium). If Iowa is playing a 10 conference schedule then who is the other 2 games to get to 12?

As I stated above if they add both AS and CM that is 7 home games and 5 away games, same as a normal year right? If they choose ISU, then they alternate every other year so they lose one home game every other year.

Play ISU in IC 7 (home) - 5 (away), then next season play ISU in IC 6 (home) - 6 (away).

I don't see how that is so devastating to a program that makes as much money as Iowa does. Normally Iowa vs. ISU draw more people to the local economy than other games. A few years back they estimated that there were well over 100K possibly 120K people outside Kinnick tailgating for Iowa ISU, no other games do that.

You are correct, and they are not going to be losing a home game every other year. I don't think you realize how much one home game is worth. The ticket sales for one game alone is over 4,000,000 dollars. Now include parking and concessions. Iowa will be playing 7 home games unless there is a neutral site game. That is going to happen every year. Six home and six away every other year is not worth debating because it is not happening.

I say we play ISU as long as they want to come to Kinick on our terms. We could could give them a pay day like we do other schools. Still come out pretty well. They would scream and yell. Oh well.

Simple solution. We tell ISU to give us all the money from the game at Ames. Hand it over, little brother. They'll make it up on "Game Day Champion" t-shirt sales whenever they win.

Not complicated, people.

There is not a lot of upside to the ISU series for Iowa.

However, I don't think you'd see nearly as many Hawk fans looking to end the series if we were on a 15 year run (or whatever Hayden put up on them).

Barta is right, though. Seven home games is a must, and if 10 are in-conference (and it is only fair to have an even number of home-away in-conference), it looks like the series will end.

I should have said that it looks like the series will end if ISU requires every other year be played in Ames.

Is this published somewhere, just wanting is this is an estimate or completely legit?

I would think its real close Dave $50.00 x 70,000 is 3.5 Then you have the lux boxes

Not all tickets are paid for, players get like 2 tickets per game for family and friends, plus coaches get the same. Plus how many are donated by the school for whatever reason. Just wondering, plus kids under a certain age play way less than $50.00 for a seat.

The players get 4 per game. If they give away 1000 with coaches ect. thats only $50,000. Im not saying its 4 mil but I bet its not far off.

Yep, their a MAC team playing in the big 12.

FreedComanche

Toward the end of the season the word "playing" isn't exactly how I would describe their on field motions. More like emulating. Their season climax seems to be in early Sept. Downhill after that. Course Iowa usually builds after early Sept. Well used to anyway. Maybe we should be UNI fans. At least their a small potato power. Might be better to be that than a O well were just Iowa program. Wonder what KF would say if he gets fired and gets the UNI gig? Were just Waterloo? boo hoo.

An estimate, but actually I estimated incorrectly. It should have been just under 4 million a game. If that makes an extra home game significantly less important, then my argument is blown. Considering that one more of the home games in the future will be a B1G game, you can probably bump that number up a bit.

I thought the state economy would collapse if there wasn't an Iowa/ISU game.:)

I am sure you are close on your estimate, but that is only $4 million over two years if they play ISU. Listen to me, ONLY $4 millions dollars, ONLY.

I get your point, I think you're right. It just seems like the ISU - Iowa rivalry is more important to the state than the University of Iowa especially if it costs them $4 million over two years just to keep it.

If the B1G only goes to a 9 game schedule (as Delaney seems to favor) then they could play the away game at ISU on the year they have only 4 conference road games. That is about the only way to justify keeping it an annual rivalry.

Hawks can draw plenty of fans without that game. Let the Clones schedule another compelling Mid-Major team, so they can execute their strategy of going 3-0 in the non-conference, 3-6 in the Big 12, and getting an invite to a lower tier bowl. It's worked well so far for them, and their fans don't seem to mind that formula.
