Man, all I can say is that it must have been just pure suckatood to be an Iowa fan in the 70's. Both f-ball and b-ball.

Oddly enough, Iowa has only finished in the top 25 once in the last 10 years, which was last year at #25.

I was thinking the same thing. I was a little surprised we'd be #23 all-time considering we are almost always unranked at year's end. But maybe the 80's and 90's, and certain years prior to that, are still carrying enough weight.

If Iowa is #23 now, I have to believe they would have been higher on this list 15-20 years ago.

It's just a list that compiles the total points accrued in the ap poll. Honestly Iowa State was probably a lot lower before the last 4 years.

Ah, well that kind of explains it. There have been a lot of years where Iowa has been ranked pretty highly through January or so, but nosedived the last month of the season. So it's not where you finish, but how much time you spent in the polls throughout the year that is driving this - though I disagree: It IS where you finish that counts. Top 10 ranking in January doesn't mean much if you tank by end of the season and are done in the NCAA's by the end of the first weekend. It's a 30+ game season, not a 20 game season.

I came on at the tail end of the 70's. Lute/Ronnie were just getting Iowa back to prominence in basketball and Hayden had just been hired in football.. Yeah, it was bad.
