Introducing the 2014 Iowa State Defense

I think he was one of their starters last year wasn't he?

But in any event. We Iowa fans know the problems not having a solid line can cause. They were bad last year and they probably aren't going to get better this year.

Never underestimate the opponent. Iowa should prepare for Iowa State just as if they were getting ready to play a top ten program. There have been years when these guys have beaten us and should never have. I am sure the coaches will make sure our guys are grounded during the practices leading up to that game. Looking forward to this rivalry game.

Iowa can't overlook anyone. Not even Iowa State. My comments are on Iowa States' prospect for the year. From what I see that is a program in trouble.
But Iowa needs to prepare for Northern Iowa. They are not a push over. And Iowa can't look past them

Agreed, they are easily the second best team in Iowa. Need to be more ready for them than ISU.

The leadership of the 2014 Iowa team were all around to play on the 2012 team and took the beatings week after week. I don't think those guys are going to let teammates look past any team...UNI, ISU, or Purdue for example. The one thing about having a tough year, it's always in the back of your mind what was that was like. I think Scherff and the other leaders of this team feel they have a few beat downs to deliver to make things right. The only way to get better each week is to prepare and motivate for each game, no matter the opponent...and hopefully by November, the team is kicking arse and taking names when we get to Wisky and Nebby.

The ISU defense was horrific last year. It is sooooo funny that Clown fans are sooooo stupid that they blame the offense for the defense being sh1tty. If you look at the stats, ISU had better TOP stats than Indiana. As a matter of fact the ISU defense gave up more yards per minute than Indiana......Only a stupid Clown fan would blame the offense for a HISTORICALLY bad defense.

Oh, and they might be even worse this year....

True. The team can't. That's why its our job to make fun of them.

If their offense scores on one-play six-second touchdown drives that would actually put their defense on the field for fifty minutes a game.

Lazard is such a smart player that he will fall down right after he gets the first down do they can control TOP. They have an unlimited amount if offensive weapons, so Lazard and Mangino just need to teach them to play as smart as Lazard.

Jensen decided to come back. He was welcomed back with open arms by all the coaches and players after missing all the offseason workouts.

Which means he probably won't be a factor until mid season or later. If he is in shape by then. They (ISU) were grasping at straws last year when they put Coe out there and the guy they had suspended on the line. I think this year is just as bad. They are trying to patch the Titanic with band aids.

Last year...Iowa pounded Weisman and it was 4-5 yards on every play. With the size and experience along the ISU front seven, I believe you will see a similar strategy...just power football. KF likes to have his team practice against an 8 man front when they have a physical advantage. I assume that will be the case here. I think this year though the power game will see much more of Daniels...and honestly, I think he may unseat Weisman as the #1 power guy by the end of the year. He looks like a complete beast in the pictures...and I know it needs to translate, but he appears to be getting a ton of work with the number 1 offensive unit.

Football can be an interesting game and big plays and turnovers can level things out, but with what appears to be a serious physical advantage in the trenches...Iowa State could be an 18 to 19 point underdog in a rivalry game...and I'd take Iowa all day long under 3 touchdowns.

This is 100% right. They will never admit that their second fav coach Wally Burnham has a terrible defense. It is truly baffling.

2 people from last year are gone. That 6'7 guy was arrested for enciting the Brisbane riot I believe. Rodney Coe is gone too, not sure why.

Yeah, Irving was far and away their best lineman they were so desperate they had to move him inside. They actually had something with him at end.....He gone now it really doesn't matter.

I am really worried about our new linebackers going up against a team with a player like Lazard, who can go "Tecmo Bo" on any defense he faces. I can see the linebackers or safeties just running close to him and diving for him but then he jumps and runs around the corners until the clock runs out and he scores a touchdown.

He has been back with the team since spring ball, if he isn't in shape by now he probably won't ever be.

Rhoads has been grasping at straws ever since last year when he didn't suspend Irving after he, allegedly, assaulted his gf on a street corner in Ames and cut her hair.

Was that the same guy who pulled out the stop sign during the riots?
