Joel Maturi gets paid lots of money to make big decisions. At least, that's the working theory. Someday, we may even find out whether it's true.
Or maybe not. It's just a theory.


Maturi provided diplomatic immunity to Tubby Smith when he defected from Kentucky. You could say Maturi hired Smith. I'd say Smith hired Maturi, which is why Smith is the most powerful and secure member of the athletic department today.

When Dan Monson had run a popular basketball program into the ground, had emptied Williams Arena faster than a stink bomb, Maturi dithered and gave Monson one more year to finish emptying Williams Arena.
When he flopped again in the fall of 2006, Maturi accepted Monson's resignation, wasting a season because Maturi didn't fire Monson when he should have. Luckily for Maturi, Smith decided to hire Minnesota a year later.

Why is that interesting? Obviously their AD Maturi is incompetent, he should have fired Monson and didn't and now he is doing the same thing with FB, Brewster should be fired and by not doing it Maturi is just wasting another season. Aside from that what kind of a dumb *** AD would hire Tim Brewster to begin with?

The only think I can read into is that vbeac is saying that Barta should fire Lickliter?

I think what he is saying is that eventually a big enough turd will clog your toilet and you have to call in a man to do the work.

12345.......hadn't thought about that take from Souhan's comments. The similarities between Monson's and Lickliter's situations over time are striking, so far, if one thinks about it. Will be interesting to see how Lick's and Barta's finally plays out relative to how Minnesota's finally played out.
