The guy is more knowledgeable than the girl is cute. I like his subtle jabs at USC throughout. Lots of respect for IOWA's coaching. But he does that annoying talk-with-your-eyes-closed" thing.

Interesting observations here. Worth the listen. Some very complementary of the Iowa approach and the Iowa program.

thanks that was fun to watch. Always nice to hear the respect outsiders with obvious football knowledge have for the job Iowa coaching staff does. And yet we still have geniuses that want Kirk gone.

Weber appears to write for a webpage (his webpage?) as part of 247sports. He didn't pull any punches, which is not uncommon among the LA area sports beat writers. It's a different tone from Iowa based journalists. Neither would work in the other's market.

BTW, USC's D-coordinator and special teams coordinator are officially looking for employment.

He basically says the difference was tackling. Iowa players made 1 on 1 tackles and USC didn't. He implies that Iowa on the 3rd and long knew USC's formation and felt good going 1 on 1 rb to defender.

He said USC didn't ever practice tackling in the weeks preceeding.

2ndary note by me, USC's insistence on passing only is like Iowa at time continuing to run into a stacked line in some games in some years. Will result in RB injuries.

ARob was the epitome of that.

Dan Weber said that someone watching this game is saying; You know what Iowa is doing maybe that is what we should be doing. Said Iowa's lateral movement was Much better than USC and we were Much more fundamentally sound than the Trojans.....

Mentioned that every time out, the Hawks put both QBs on the field with receivers and that's the only time you can get on the field in the game with these super long 2:30 minute timeouts. So both quarterbacks are throwing the ball back and forth to the receivers and if you have to use your backup, he has been throwing the ball the whole game on the field. There's a ton of little things like that that Iowa does.

For example, when Iowa comes on the field they have a hundred guys in a square that might be 15 feet by 15 feet. When USC comes on the field, they are strung out. a hundred guys over two hundred feet, guys straggling along and all that.

He really has a lot of respect for the Hawks.

I like this guy. He is vert good and gives credit where it is due. LA has had some excellent sportswriters before like Jim Murray of the LA Times who said that if the Hayden Fry Hawks in the Rose Bowl against UCLA had gone one more quarter we would have won.

Alright Alright Alright

The play that I thought was huge that I've not seen talked about was the 3rd and 9 running play that Sargent converted. He broke a tackle around the LOS or so and had he not done that we were punting. It kept that drive going and obviously we scored later from it. When it comes to him talking about tackling I'm sure that play was exibit A to what he's referring to.

One thing I feel has been overlooked is Sam LaPorta. Dude had 9 catches all year going into the bowl game, then pulled down 6 catches vs USC, and I believe the majority of them were for first downs. Pretty special for a true Freshman Tight End.
