Injury Update

I’m guessing Hankins wasn’t quite ready for IN, Brents is a clear starter and Riley was POTW so you have your starters for IN. MD is more of a runnnng team and maybe Hankins still is not quite ready. They will need Hankins vs PSU and going forward w more pass happy teams. Your clear starters are Hankins/Brents if healthy.

Speaking of injuries. What did Jon hack up in the latest podcast around 8:30 & 10:40?

Forgot about him. He’s an interesting prospect as well. Wasn’t he a basketball prospect too?

Yep, he was looked at as a D1 BB player before he decided to switch his focus. He played all over in HS on defense (secondary, LB, edge rusher), and he likes to hit people.

I guess Devote Young is now a safety as well.

Sorry. Meant to post this earlier.

Brady Ross hurt his leg during Saturday’s game and did not return. KF said preliminary reports Saturday said nothing serious. He left the field in a protective boot.

Ivory Kelly-Martin sustained an injury against Minnesota and did not suit up for Indiana. KF sounded confident he would be back for Maryland.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette left Saturday’s game and visited the locker room during the second quarter. He limped back out on the field and missed the third quarter. He did return in the fourth and told me he was fine.

Noah Fant was questionable heading into Indiana but played (well). KF said he was cleared on Friday.

KF said on Saturday and again on Sunday during his UI interview that starting outside LB Nick Niemann had a good chance to get back into action against Maryland. He missed the previous two games with a leg injury he suffered at the end of Wisconsin.

KF seemed optimistic about the chances that MLB Jack Hockaday would return for Homecoming. Sunday he sounded a little less optimistic. He would be questionable at this time.

Did I miss anyone?

Has Banwart been completely healthy? Has he been getting reps in the interior? What about the Paulsons?

I know Reynolds/Render have been really good, just wondering how that other OG spot has been handled.

I think Banwart made it into the Indy game in the 4th quarter.

Cole Banwart played more Saturday than he had in recent games. I think he’s starting to feel better.

Toren Young looked to have an upper-body injury in the second half Saturday. Trainers were checking shoulder area.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette may not have been himself Saturday. It was a run-game but it could have been his leg from Indiana, too.

Matt Hankins didn’t dress out Saturday after being cleared the previous 2 weeks despite a large cast on his arm.

Jack Hockaday didn’t dress out. He’s still dealing with a leg.

Brady Ross was ruled out before Maryland and likely will be sidelined for Penn St.

Nick Niemann returned against Maryland after missing the previous 2 weeks with a leg suffered against Wisconsin.

Ivory Kelly-Martin came back v MD after missing Indiana with an injury.

Pretty salty effort with all those injuries. We need some of those guys this week in Pedo Valley

Especially on D. To be this good with all the dings is impressive. And, it didn’t get a lot of reps Saturday because the offense dominated.

Defense should be rested and ready to go, but I actually think we can do about the same thing to Penn St. I think we will start out the game with the same general plan. Cram it down their throats and keep the ball out of McSorly's hands. If Penn St shows they can stop the power run then we will open the passing game up from there.

I realize I'm in the minority but I think Sargent is our best RB.
I dont disagree completely. I think Ivory-Martin is the most talented, but Sargent is a heck of a runner. If he had just a tiny bit more burst...woah Nelly! I like what Sargent is doing when he gets the football, just his ceiling isnt as high but his desire and grittiness is tops right now.

I think that we will generate enough of a pass rush with our front 4, force McSorley to run a few times. Good news is our LB's and safeties are athletic enough to contain him. Not a bad week to run Hooker at the hybrid LB spot, lock down the shorter routes and spy McSorley.
