Injury Update

Is Ojemudia a safety next year (the position he started at)?

I think he's better suited for safety. He's probably the team's top tackling CB.

He had some trouble against Purdue last year, which, along with Rugamba struggling in that game, opened the door for Hankins.

I think it will be Brents and Hankins when the latter gets healthy with Moss as the third CB.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Hankins and Brents lining up when all are healthy. Good problem to have.
Edit: Did not see Rob's post but yes, agree.

I've been stating that since I saw his HS tape.

He's too stiff in the hips for corner. Plus he struggles with his back to the play. He could be an intriguing FS if he puts on another 10 lbs or so. The problem is, he will have some stiff competition moving forward. He could end up being the odd man out in our defensive backfield.

I realize I'm in the minority but I think Sargent is our best RB.
Yeah I would bet you might be. I like Sargent he can be used a lot of ways and I was tickled with his blitz pickups too. From just the running game side of things I just think Young can turn 2 or 3 yards into 5 or more by pushing the pile and making his own hole sometimes. When they are in the open field I'd prefer either Sargent or IKM instead. To me it's just a fit/style thing as much as anything. Young should be able to take a pounding and give it out. Using the other two after the D is tired and wore out should provide them with more room to run and do their thing. But that's just me as BF seems to prefer IKM so guess we are both wrong ha.

Injuries have given us incredible experience in the back 7. Next year we will be deep and experienced. We lose a few guys up front and even fewer in the back 7. Look for another dominant defense next year.

Imo, very humble opinion. Pretty interchangeable

1) Young, based on how Iowa likes to run the between the tackles guy, good blocker, not great speed, but hits hole with burst. Strong power back. Can get an extra yard or 2.

2) Sarge -runs, blocks, and can catch. Runs really hard. Not elite but well rounded. Seems to always fall forward. Possibly best blocker.

3) IKM. Fastest of the 3, quick, good receiver.

I like all 3 and it's good to have depth.

The one skill they dont seem to have great, yet, is seeing the cutback lane quick enough. They run up the backs of linemen quite a bit. If they can develop that...we will start to see bigger runs.

3 headed Cerberus!

I liked young in the open field on his TD

And we are building the next three-headed monster. Henry Geil, Samson Evans, and Tyler Goodson!

He's got great balance. That was impressive how he went like 5 yards with his shoulders that low to the ground.

That was a great play by TY. I just assumed they would "have" to overturn it on review, no WAY he could maintain his balance that well. But, nope, he really DID "keep his feet"! An awesome effort.

That takes some crazy leg and core strength... I've maintained for a few weeks that he should be our main bell cow. With the other two complimenting him. I really think he's the best fit for us. I like the other two as well and want them to get their touches too. Just don't get predictable with how when their on the field that we always run this or that.... Stay unpredictable and aggressive

So far (remember these guys are just getting started in their careers) I would say Young has shown the most. I get the others may have softer hands catching the ball. It's still early. Let's see how they develop.
For sure you can pull a lineman and or add a fb and Young is going to punish anyone left in his way.
Add 5-10 pounds for next year and he is going to be a load to stop, even at the next level.

I agree, I am "most comfortable" with TY getting the initial carries/looks. IMO, the "bigger" backs run a style that is pretty straight-ahead and do what they do. Guys like IKM, sort of like early years of Wadley, benefit a bit by getting an idea of the how the defense is flowing by seeing things develop from the sidelines. And of course, Sargent is sort of a composite of the two. That always seems to be the way things go at RB for Iowa!

I'm a day behind but it sounds like we are getting our wish. He's listed at #1 on the depth chart now. So maybe that's what we'll be seeing more of. Be nice to get our LBs all healthy

What have you heard on DJ Johnson? I’ve heard he was battling an injury but is starting to show some signs. He will likely take a redshirt this year but the next few years with Brents, Hankins, Johnson, and Moss could be a solid group.

Totally agree on the top 4 CB going into next year. I think OJ was passed up.

Probably a natural switch to safety, where we need more depth (could lose Hooker to draft, will lose Gervase to graduation). I wonder what is up with Creamer and Turner? I wonder if either is a potential convert to safety?

We have Stone, Milani, Merriweather, and Cradieth coming back for sure. Castro coming in. Any other obvious ones I am missing? We might need a lot of safeties if we plan on using the "star" position a lot going forward.

I’m not sure Hooker leaves just yet, at least that’s my hope.

The obvious answer is to move OJ back there. Hooker, Stone, Craddieth, and OJ would be great depth.
