Injury Update

Sorry. Meant to post this earlier.

Brady Ross hurt his leg during Saturday’s game and did not return. KF said preliminary reports Saturday said nothing serious. He left the field in a protective boot.

Ivory Kelly-Martin sustained an injury against Minnesota and did not suit up for Indiana. KF sounded confident he would be back for Maryland.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette left Saturday’s game and visited the locker room during the second quarter. He limped back out on the field and missed the third quarter. He did return in the fourth and told me he was fine.

Noah Fant was questionable heading into Indiana but played (well). KF said he was cleared on Friday.

KF said on Saturday and again on Sunday during his UI interview that starting outside LB Nick Niemann had a good chance to get back into action against Maryland. He missed the previous two games with a leg injury he suffered at the end of Wisconsin.

KF seemed optimistic about the chances that MLB Jack Hockaday would return for Homecoming. Sunday he sounded a little less optimistic. He would be questionable at this time.

Did I miss anyone?

What's going on at CB? Is Hankins still hurt, or did the true freshies Wally Pip both he and OJ?
I saw Hankins on the sidelines with a cast still on his hand. It looked like it had been cut down from the previous week, but still there. Probably a good idea to not play him, unless absolutely necessary. My guess is he'll be back in there when fully healed.

Mostly good news there. I kinda liked having Young get the bulk of the RB work I wonder if IKM will just jump right back in and get 18 plus touches with the other two getting 10 each or so again.

Good news on Neiman. I think Colbert has been playing pretty well. It will be interesting to see who lines up on Saturday. Neiman was our best LB before getting hurt. It will be nice to see him back.

The more intriguing thing is what happens when you bring Hooker into the LB spot...do you remove Neiman...or move him inside. Phil Parker has options that's for sure. Nothing against Hockaday, but we are putting alot of speed on the field with Welsh, Colbert, and Neiman...plus even more when Stone goes to safety, and Hooker to LB.

It appears Ojemudia for sure has been beaten out. He's been playing special teams and on some sub packages.

I also saw Hankins' cast Indiana. It didn't look that much smaller than the one he was wearing at Minnesota. And he's not played any special teams the last two weeks.

It really makes you wonder what happened here as he was supposed to be the next great CB coming up after Desmond King. Has he fallen off that much or not progressed? Iowa must have really upgraded the CB position along with depth, which is good.

Is Ojemudia a safety next year (the position he started at)?

I think OJ got picked on by a Hornibrook in the 4th qtr and got beat several times.

Moss was picked on at MN, but he eventually came back and won his match-ups later on.

The TD he gave up at Indiana, he actually had his forearm up inside the WR’s arms but just couldn’t dislodge it.

I think Phil is happy with all 4 of the CB’s and will be happy if 3 of them are healthy for any given game. Sure seems like OJ is the nickel right now, doesn’t it? Not sure what happens when Hankins gets back. It is a great problem to have!

Sounds like DJ JOHNSON will be in the mix once he gets healthy, too! (Maybe next year)?

PS: We can trust PP regardless of which way he wants to play it, can’t we? Gervase came back a better player after he lost his starting job- so maybe that happens again with OJ.
