I hope he is right. From article:

Heading into the matchup against Iowa, Cignetti managed to compliment Iowa, while also taking a jab at the Illinois Fighting Illini in the same sentence, after the Hoosiers beat Illinois 63-10 last weekend.

"A more difficult challenge than the last one for sure," Cignetti said when asked about traveling to Iowa to play in the always-hostile Kinnick Stadium.

i noticed that and at first I thought it was a jab. But how can you call that game a challenge. It seemed to come easy for them. They expected more of a fight

Illinois is total fake news. Tell me a single reason they should be ranked, and why they shouldn't have lost to Indiana by 53 points...

This year Illinois has beaten Western Illinois (non-major), Duke, and Western Michigan. What about them ever said, "9th best football team in the country?" Last year they had ONE decent win against Michigan, and even that has a few asterisks.

Here's their wins last year...

Kansas - losing record in '24 and also fake news
Central Michigan
nebraska
- duh...
Purdue - terrible team and Purdue only lost by 1 point
Michigan - ended up 5-4 in B1G play
Michigan State - LOLZ
Northwestern
South Carolina
- their 3 best players opted out.

Rankings mean dick. Nada. And they mean even less at the beginning of the season after 3 JV schools. To be honest they shouldn't even put rankings out until like week 6. Indiana isn't as good as they're being made out to be and Illinois is terrible. Not saying the Hawks are going to win, but this bullshit being spewed by the media about how Indiana's the 2nd coming of Alabama is dumb.

Illinois according to a bullshit poll was a "top ten team" (heavy air quotes there). I'm asking a question of anyone on this board...what's the reason? The "reason" is they beat a popular blue blood school who was barely in the top 25 at the end of the year and they won their bowl game against a depleted team. Cignetti has made a good football culture in a short turn-around time and has a really good team, but they aren't what they're being made out to be. Coming into Kinnick isn't a friendly confine for any team...ask Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh, James Franklin...all of them have said numerous times what a hell hole it is for a visitor. This will be a much bigger test for them than than playing in front of the best home environment in Indiana hostory.

A little harsh. They went 10-3 last season and returned a lot of starters, including an experienced QB. Yes, they had some cupcakes last year, but 10 wins is 10 wins. Its still the Big 10. I agree that they were overrated going into the Indiana game, but there was not a pundit or a better or a fan anywhere that predicted that Indiana would just boatrace Illinois like that. Bert's teams have always been solid and fundamental. So yes, early season rankings is a very imprecise science and yes, it is now abundantly clear that Illinois is nowhere near a Top 10 team, but you needed to get this take out there before the Indiana beat down if you wanted credit for it. Retrospective hot takes are easy enough to put out there. :)

More of an editorial on how meaningless AP rankings are. They're 100% bs. 0% relevant. Mathematical RPI however is very relevant, and even that isn't reliable until halfway through conference play.

I did also say Indiana is a good team, but that boatracing proved nothing other than that the AP rankings are as useful as hen shit on a pump handle.

Dang Fry did some gal from IL dump you once upon a time?

The polls work like this. It all started with their W/L record from last year + returning starters + how they did in the bowl game. Summer poll + winning and others losing and they move up. Polls just work that way. We remember 2021 when ISU and PSU were ranked high and Iowa beat them...but honestly we knew #2 ranking was to be short lived. That's how the polls work.

Speaking of work, USC is going to work IL this weekend.

I get that they work that way, I'm just saying it's all BS.

I like Illinois. If Wallace gets KF's job that's my new team.

Just basically saying that there's absolutely no relevant evidence that Illinois was the 9th best team in the country and it's a perfect example f how those polls are stupid.

Take it for what it is worth, but Dochterman thinks there is a 50% chance Iowa gets boat raced this weekend. He thinks Indiana is a better team than Penn State or Oregon right now, and Hawk fans should think of this as Ohio State coming into Kinnick.

Feels like they'll need to take some chances and try to get to Mendoza early, get a good shot or two in and hope the crowd helps rattle him. And then maybe take more chances on offense than Kirk would typically prefer.

If their QB has time to throw the ball it's absolutely going to be a 58-10 affair.

If the front 4 can cause problems Iowa has a shot. Our secondary & LB platoon is the weakest it's ever been in the Ferentz era by a mile and a half.

Phil will definitely have to roll the dice dial up some blitzes and schemes or this could easily get ugly. And yes, absolutely, this is just as big as game as tOSU coming to town.

Fortune will have to be on our side with special teams playing big for us and maybe a turnover or two. I just don't see Iowa having the ponies to go toe to toe with them otherwise.

I'm hoping and somewhat optimistic that with homecoming and the hype this game is building that Kinnick will be for us the same advantage Indiana's crowd was this past Saturday.

For what it is worth, of the 8 big games this weekend involving ranked teams, this was the only one Cowherd could not pick. He made the other 7 picks easily. He wrestled between Kinnick being a huge factor, whether its a letdown game, but then he mentioned the beatdown they gave Illinois. He never made a pick.

To me, if the game is close, Iowa pulls it out. But its just as likely we lose 38-10.

So are internet sports message boards, but here we are! :)

Yeah, I spouted out on this very message board that Mendoza couldn’t match what Rourke did last year. As if I was watching a lot of California Golden Bears games last year. One of those hot takes I wish I could have back.:)

I rewatched the game and watched Iowa's LBs. It was underwelming. Go ahead do it.

Harrell seems to be a step slow on everything. I have been told a 100 million times that Sharar is this stud athlete. He may be, but my dude is always trailing behind someone in pass coverage. In regards to pass coverage you are not confusing him with Chad Greenway or AJ Edds.
