Illinois is total fake news. Tell me a single reason they should be ranked, and why they shouldn't have lost to Indiana by 53 points...

This year Illinois has beaten Western Illinois (non-major), Duke, and Western Michigan. What about them ever said, "9th best football team in the country?" Last year they had ONE decent win against Michigan, and even that has a few asterisks.

Here's their wins last year...

Kansas - losing record in '24 and also fake news
Central Michigan
nebraska - duh...
Purdue - terrible team and Purdue only lost by 1 point
Michigan - ended up 5-4 in B1G play
Michigan State - LOLZ
Northwestern
South Carolina - their 3 best players opted out.

Rankings mean dick. Nada. And they mean even less at the beginning of the season after 3 JV schools. To be honest they shouldn't even put rankings out until like week 6. Indiana isn't as good as they're being made out to be and Illinois is terrible. Not saying the Hawks are going to win, but this bullshit being spewed by the media about how Indiana's the 2nd coming of Alabama is dumb.

Illinois according to a bullshit poll was a "top ten team" (heavy air quotes there). I'm asking a question of anyone on this board...what's the reason? The "reason" is they beat a popular blue blood school who was barely in the top 25 at the end of the year and they won their bowl game against a depleted team. Cignetti has made a good football culture in a short turn-around time and has a really good team, but they aren't what they're being made out to be. Coming into Kinnick isn't a friendly confine for any team...ask Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh, James Franklin...all of them have said numerous times what a hell hole it is for a visitor. This will be a much bigger test for them than than playing in front of the best home environment in Indiana hostory.

More of an editorial on how meaningless AP rankings are. They're 100% bs. 0% relevant. Mathematical RPI however is very relevant, and even that isn't reliable until halfway through conference play.
