That article actually makes it sound like he really doesn't have a favorite yetTrevor Downing is trying to reach a decision on where to attend college. Whenever he feels close, however, the choice becomes more difficult. He spoke with HN about it after visiting Iowa on Monday:

Bless his heart.I think ISU is the favorite and has been for awhile because of his desire to study ag tech.
That said, from interviewing him today, I don't think he's made a final decision. The visit to Ames on Thursday will be huge. The Clones expect to close the deal that day. We'll see.
Campbell will be selling hope in Ames on Thursday.
Will be pleasantly surprised if he ends up a Hawk. I would view our chances to slightly increase if he doesn't make up his mind this week as he said he was hoping to do. That timeline seemed ready made for an ISU last visit announcement.
75 years in a row of selling hope must get old.
If he wants best shot to play in NFL he will go to Iowa, if he wants to play for a loser he will go to ISU
What's hilarious is that I am sure that whenever we are recruiting against the Ohio State's, Alabama's, and other blue bloods of college football that they say the same thing about us. Yes I know we put players in the NFL but I am referring to the over all success of the program compared to the blue blood programs. Their fans point their fingers at us and scoof at us.
What is worse? Selling hope for 75 years, or all the fans continuing to believe the sales pitch?
What's the alternative? Stop caring and act like Purdue fans?
Losing Downing to ISU would hurt but hardly a huge loss. We have a terrific oline lineup this year plus some studs like Wirfs and Kallenberger coming in this year. We have some good young uns already in the program, like Williams, Banwart and Jackson. The '19 class got off to a great start with Miller coming on board and Endres and Putnam as strong possibilities. Not to mention the likelihood of the A&M transfer. I want Downing but I'm also not worried about oline recruiting at Iowa.
I think they did pretty well at toledo development wise with there linemanYou hate to see Iowa lose out on their top guys. If Iowa wants him this early, he is no doubt a good OLman and will do well at ISU. There are many more good OL prospects out there though, and I'm sure Iowa will bring one of them in to go along with Jenkins. The thing is Downing would be better after 5 years of development under KF and staff than he will be under Campbell, and his predecessor and their staffs.
