Impressive List

12 seasons in the league, 7 Pro Bowls, 2 of them first team, All Rookie team in '07 and a Super Bowl ring.

He's by far and away the best Hawkeye NFL'er in history. No one else even comes close.

Hasn't he mostly avoided injury as well (perhaps until recently)?

It seems like a few others (Bulaga, early taste of the Scherff experience) have had a great start, but have not had the durability to match the career accolades. Here's hoping Scherff overcomes his recent setback, and in a decade we are arguing between Wirfs, Jackson, Daniels, Yanda, and Scherff.

I was kind of hoping Yanda would retire after he got hurt. CTE is pretty prevalent in O-lineman who've played lots of years. Tons of sub concussive hits every game.

Hall of Famer Andre Tippett says hey!

Bob Sanders says he would also like you to consider him in the category of someone who comes close to Yanda.
If Sanders could have stayed healthy after the 2007 season, he would have made a run at Yanda or Tippett's numbers. All the big hits eventually show up and do their long term damage.
Yanda will be a HOF'er, has more PB (2x first team, 4x second team), will make the all-decade team, and obviously the Raven's HOF, but I get your point.

I love Bob Sanders but keeping yourself healthy is a part of what makes a great career. Can't go on coulda/shoulda/woulda.

I think it was the "not even close" comment that sparked my interest. I have one more for you that really should be considered and if you ask me...is more revered than Yanda ever will be. If you go and ask people who knew the era of the 60s...they will tell you Karras was the guy they feared the most. Think about that decade below...first or second team ALL Pro for pretty much his entire career:

Alex Karras
Once again, not the longevity that Yanda has had...but it was a much different game then. I know the game is violent now with the speed and size of players...but I would tell you the 60's and 70s in NFL Football was a violent game because guys were ruthless and it wasn't policed like it is today. Karras was one tough SOB. He got suspended with Paul Hornung in 1963 for gambling, but the golden domer got into the Hall while Karras has been shafted.

It's a travesty that Karras died without getting the call from Canton. When you were arguably the best DT for a decade of football in the NFL...well...not being in the Hall of Fame is really a major issue. I'm surprised more people aren't making a case for him.

Imagine being Karras, changing your name to George Papadopolis, adopting a disadvantaged youth with your wife whose name was Ma'am, and then getting indicted. That guy's fall from grace has been remarkable.

I know it may have been hard to tell because the acting was so good...but that was a TV show. I thought Karras's Mongo in Blazing Saddles was the pinnacle of his acting career.

Don't forget Porky's ... :)

Paul Krause and Alex Karras disagree...not to mention Emlen Tunnell...

See...there were guys I was missing too. Wow...Paul Krause. I was a Vikings fan growing up too. I'm ashamed I missed him.

Paul Krause
Emlen Tunnell

Would the NFL career interception leader qualify as being in Yanda's league? I have to admit, I didn't know who Emlen Tunnell was and I consider myself a avid Iowa Fan. Wow...what a career...9x Pro Bowler.

Both of these guys are on the Ring of Honor for their respective teams. I think they qualify with Yanda.
