I don't think you'll hear about many organizations being like this. I've heard forever going back to Debartalo owning the team that they've been that way. When Dwight Clark was fighting for his life Debartalo and whole organization and former teammates did a lot for him. It's not just the stars that they seem to care about and keep up with either. As a Hawk I want to despise PJ Fleck with every ounce of my soul. But he makes that kinda tough to do the more I've read about him.

He's a little odd but it is hard to hate him when you read something like this.

Right?! I try to put myself in other folks shoes as best I can anyway and ya gotta admire how he of below average everything was able to do what he did. He's got a don't take no for an answer personality. Positive energy all the time. It's just hard to hate that. From a distance when you hear about him you think he's just a phony and guys like Lane Kiffen pop in my head in comparison. But he's nothing like him.

Thx for sharing. Also a Niner fan. And I, for one, actually like Fleck. His passion and energy seems to be contagious. If we didn't have KF, I would take him as our coach.

I'm not sure I totally jive with his style I guess I've gotten to enjoy KFs more the last 5 yrs or so. (winning as much as we have helps with that) But I respect him. I can't outright root against him like I do guys like Urban Meyer, Harbaugh, and Frost. You have to admit he's turned around what was a tough place to do it at in MN. Granted it's still pretty early on for him we'll see if he can sustain it.

Fleck is still a skinny jean wearing, self aggrandizing, wannabe cheerleader, and attention whore. Can't stand the guy under any circumstances. If I were drowning and I saw him coming to my rescue I'd tell him to get the F away from me I'd rather drown.

Wait until I get a few beers in me tonight and I'll tell you how I really feel.

Not everyone enjoys the "Rudy" types in real life. Just saying...

True. There are plenty of cynics and negative people to go around.

As for Fleck, his style may be irritating and certainly not for everybody. But at least he's who he is...it's just out there. I'd trust him a lot more than a sleaze like Mark Dantonio and I'd rather my kid played for him than a lot of coaches.

The only guys in the Big Ten who I would let my kid play for are Ferentz and Fitz. The rest are scumbags. Maybe that guy from Indiana is okay and Lovie is probably okay, too, but the rest, no way in hell.

I've heard a story about Stan Sheriff, who they named the field at UNI for. They were practicing one day and a backup blew out his knee and it was pretty gruesome looking. Sheriff walked over and said something like, "Good, we've got another scholarship open."

Early 2000's. My uncle had a buddy with brain cancer. No hair, scar on head, whole enchilada. He got hooked up with some adult make a wish foundation type thing and went to Big Ten media days with the goal of getting every Big Ten coach to sign a football for him. Said a few of the coaches were really nice and supportive (in particular, Ferentz, Carr and Walker), DiNardo was shocked someone wanted his autograph and was effusive in offering support, some were a bit indifferent, but he said JoePa told him point blank to "F off." So the guy came back with a ball signed by 10 of the 11 coaches and a great story about a "legend." What a total prick.

My first impresion was all of that as well. Especially the attention whore part. After having learned more about him and his history and how he does things day to day I think he's genuine. He's not just filling the room full of hot air. He's not one for making excuses and has his kids backs. Maybe in time my impression of him now won't be correct. For now I respect the guy, what he's done and how he's doing things. Rather have him doing well then Frost or Chryst...

I have no interest in any of them doing well. But that's just me. I can be super petty under the right circumstances. Success of other teams in the Big Ten seems to be one of those circumstances.

I guess you see what can happen to people when they establish a brand.

I'm only going to say this once. He's a Gopher. If you're reading things that make you change your stance on him or simply find yourself developing a softer side for him, then it's time to stop reading. There is no place for such talk here.
