Illinois fires Beckman

Re: Illinois fires Beckman?

Hmm this is really strange timing. He clearly wasn't a B10 level coach though. His tenure was rocky from the beginning. I remember he ****** off Bill O'brien because he set up shop on the PSU campus after the Paterno debacle and tried to recruit his players without even giving him a courtesy call. He's a classless idiot.

Whoa....POS if this is true

Brett McMurphyVerified@McMurphyESPN

Illinois found Tim Beckman deterred injury reporting & influenced players to avoid or postpone medical treatment & continue playing

Re: Illinois fires Beckman?

He HAD to be drunk at Media Days. Anyone hear him talk? This is crazy a WEEK from first game.

Has to be some definitively bad stuff out there for him to be shown the door with no severance.

Watching the presser on BTN, it appears Cubit will be making $915k this season. So there's at least one guy who would probably take $1.5 million if KF doesn't survive after this season...

Must suck (more then usual) being an Illinois fan right now.

I've seen mostly "pro-bagging" stuff from Illini folks I know (on Facebook).

Still, I'm surprised they pulled the trigger on one hand, while understanding the reasoning behind it. It (obviously) was a situation where they couldn't--or wouldn't--take the, "We've had our meeting and now we're all on the same page" approach. And I have a hard time believing they're just using the review as an excuse, especially given that Beckman gets no severance/is terminated with-cause. It HAD to be bad and clearly reached the level of "cause" to warrant it.

I read an article today on msn.com about college teams and coaches. Part of the article had coaches who would be fired this year and they had Beckman listed at #1. They obviously knew something.

Literally this was about saving money. They could care less about the kids. Wanted Beckman gone and got it without paying off his contract.

What a DUMPSTER FIRE of an athletic program Illinois has become! It couldn't be any worse if I hand picked their AD with the intent of sabotage.
I never thought I'd say this .........but I'd rather have Barta!

As one IL follower stated.........."this is going to set the program back at least a week and a half!"

Hard to believe this program can fall much further. They just might find the right guy one of these years.

Ron Zook disagrees lol

Okay, you opened the door.

I have always been puzzled by the firing of Zook. Based upon how he could recruit there was a certain level the program could have reached and stayed at that was better than anything they have been able to get to and maintain since! Ever. They went to Rose bowls with Butkus on their defense and mike white as their head coach, but they never maintained anything either time.

Wasn't firing him a worse move than ISU Fire Danny Mac? And I thought that at the time that they fired him.

Am I wrong?
