LeVar Woods did. Hours are long. Chad got paid so maybe he values family time now over 80 hour weeks.

I thought LeVar Woods came in as a graduate student, but I couldn't remember for sure. For someone who is interested in coaching on the college level, I would think it would be a very good way to get a start. It's not the money, but the opportunity. You could go coach at a high school, but that path doesn't usually lead to collegiate level coaching even for former professional players.

The biggest gift Illinois has given us is an inept administration that has stayed away from trying to hire Phil away. As bad as they are, Phil could probably get them to a fairly consistent 6-8 win level with the talent they could reasonably expect to recruit and it would be bad for Iowa.

That said, I'd give the head job to Brian. Phil reminds me of Narduzzi - great defensive guy and he'll win some games, but I don't know that the ceiling would be that high. I think if Brian can shore up the middle of the o-line, Iowa could have some pretty decent offenses in the coming years and I think he would offer a higher ceiling. Albeit that higher ceiling would come with a lower floor.

Jesus, not the point of this. Vote who you’d rather have as a head coach and the other has to go, how hard is it people.
You seem to like to tell everybody what they should post about.

Don't you have your Over The Back research paper to finish? I told you to have it on my desk by Thursday morning, and you damn well better have it done.

Okay so we will ressurect Ara Parseghian and install him as coach. That is as likely as Phil wanting the head job.

FALSE. You cannot resurrect Ara. If the Ferentz family fell on some horrible event of ill repute mid season and Kurt and Brain both shipped out simultaneously, Phil would likely be the head man whether he wanted it or not. Personally, I think O'Keefe would be more deserving of it given his NFL experience, but I suspect they would move him up to interim OC.

This one made me laugh, good burn.

I don't think KOK ever wanted to really do the dollar dances either. He could have gone somewhere and be a head guy again. It is that part of the job you either can tolerate or you can't. All the press related stuff they have to do and then shaking down and schmoozing donors.

The thing that I couldn't handle is the tour obligation and the call-in shows. I just couldn't do it. Take the biggest dumbass from this page and multiply his stupidity by 3. Then picture this. Oelwein, Iowa, 8 AM. Pancake breakfast. Johnny Dumbass gets the mic, tells a story about how he was the best wingback in Oelwein High history. Asks a series of rapid fire questions about plays from 4 years ago, playing time for specific players, why Kurt didn't recruit a specific player from Oelwein who graduated in 2001, etc. And oh by the way, there are like 20 people there recording your every reaction, statement and movement on an iPhone. And then the call-in shows. People underestimate how special of a guy it takes to be a decent coach and then put up with going out to the sticks on those tours. I'm a reasonably nice guy, but my patience would be gone after about 5 minutes of that stuff. And while it would be bad at Iowa, I have to think it would be about 10 times worse if you were at Ol Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee, etc.
