"IF" this is indeed Kirk's swan song, who do you want?

No way. I don't care enough. The only information I posted was what I was told, not how it's going to end up turning out.

I'll be wrong no problem. Hence why my earlier posts all said do with it what you will and that I could be wrong. There's plenty of stuff here and in the real world I'll never live down. None of it bothers me and it's still a great giggle seeing people get their underoos wadded up.
My grunds are as crisp and cozy as fresh out of the package. I'm just thrilled at the prospect of some new blood. Who's Drake's coach?

Several of these candidates will be snapped up with so many vacancies out there, but my short list would be:

1. Clark Lea, Vanderbilt. Anyone who can build a powerhouse at Vanderbilt is special. This would be a home run.

2. Ryan Silverfield, HC, Memphis. He checks all of the boxes and I think he would be a good fit.

3. Jon Sumrall, HC, Tulane. Assuming Phil leaves with Kirk, we will need someone with a strong defensive background that can hand pick his guy.

4. Eric Morris, HC, North Texas. Classic "gets the most out of his talent coach"

5. David Braun, HC, Northwestern. He's better than people think. Also, a great character guy.

Anyone thinking that Fitzgerald is the right guy should read this article first:

The logical choice is Matt Entz, HC Fresno St
1. HC experience with 2 national championships
2. .810 HC winning percentage
3. Defensive first guy who like to run the ball
4. Midwest guy, grew up in Waterloo
5. Wartburg grad
6. Had duel threat QB's Trey Lance and others
7. Devout Christian which is important to KF and the $$$
8. Affordable, only makes 1.1 mil at Fresno St
9. Not a stretch since this is what Beth did with basketball hire, its her playbook

Now the funny, ironic, Twist to this, look who the Fresno St TE coach is....... LMAO

That's hilarious. Demerit against the guy's judgment. In all seriousness, BF was always a very good position coach. He just could not call plays and design an offense to save his life.

Can you imagine if this guy was hired and brought his whole staff with him? Giggling at the thought.

This guy certainly seems like a perfect fit and within Beth's playbook. Youngish, winner, affordable, would likely view Iowa as a destination job. I'm in.

Not disagreeing at all but, if he were the choice, would Beth still be waiting on an answer? He seems like the kind of guy who would say yes in about 3 seconds.

I actually did some digging on my end last week and couldn't really validate Fry's intel yet (doesn't mean it isn't true).

But the one name that did come up was Entz, in that he's been on the radar this year. But I took it more as someone the powers that be were watching and would want to talk to once Kirk called it quits. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Iowa would bypass the search process to hire Entz (while kicking their statue coach to the curb at the end of possibly a 9-4 season).

I have to squint really hard to see this situation, but the only possible scenario that makes any sense at all is that the admin and donors want to keep as much continuity with the staff as possible, but don't see a replacement among the current assistants. And Kirk came to Beth and said he was stepping down, and through back channels Entz said he'd be interested and agreed to keep several key assistants (maybe Parker and Woods).

But one, Kirk triggering this by stepping down isn't what Fry is reporting. And two, they can't really bring in an outside guy and expect him to keep any assistants, not even Parker necessarily. That shit never works. Even elevating a current assistant wouldn't necessarily guarantee the staff stays intact. Old rivalries come out, new opportunities pop up, guys clean house...it never works to dictate who a head coach hires as assistants. The AD hires the coach and the coach hires his assistants.

Now, for all those who want some conspiracies, I know Bri never sold his house in Iowa City. Never listed, never sold, never changed hands.

So maybe Kirk is playing some kind of long game here to get him back to IC... :)

That's a good addition to the list. Certainly a possibility.
