If Lane Kiffin had two players, Iowa had 3

Had to give myself 24 hours to vent before getting on any hawk sites. The time has come and the bitter taste is still fresh in my mouth. (Thanks BTN for looping the loss)

Everyone has stated the obvious. Instead of playing not to lose, it would be nice to see an Iowa team that plays to WIN.

Lets begin.

Coker was p*ssy footing out there, although he didn't get much help from the O-line, you're 230lbs, play like it. O-Line: Is this the same group that everyones been touting as a top BIG unit? It didn't look like it.

Can we get Canzeri out there? Or someone who can get out on the edge? Running up the gut every down only works w/a dominant O-line.

Same ole' same ole' on defense as we've been eaten up by the spread O before, nothing new here, fast QBs are tough for this scheme. Having said that I have never seen a slower less effective Iowa D-line than I saw yesterday.

Castillo-(insert explitives of your choosing)

The three that came to PLAY: McNutt, Davis, Prater. Thought they played well(minus the one Davis drop). Nico Law brought the pain on kick off coverage, like to see that intensity.

Kirk: You didn't trust Vandy in 09. Outcome: OT loss. Vandy's a junior now, maybe its time to let him spread those wings and fly

...Not so fast mister, I think we'll run out the clock and go into OT AGAIN...let me get this straight, you trust him in OT, but not w/1:20 left to get into FG range? How does this make sense?

Norm, way to mix it up a bit...in the 4th quarter and OT. Coulda done so a bit sooner, maybe theres a time delay from the press box to the sideline. Maybe we need some new equipment?

KOK-LOVE LOVE LOVE the McNutt pass call...

All in all, great game. We played to WIN and left it all on the field, best coaching I've seen in a while...

Wha???? This contradicts other things in your post.

Kirk did NOT play to win....he wussed out as usual. And it was yet another example of poor game day coaching by the Multimillion Dollar Man.

Sorry, I sprinkled in a little sarcasm at the end there.

I didn't like the reverse pass at all. That's the kind of play you run when you are struggling to move the ball. We had finally gotten things clicking a little on offense, and then we randomly called that play, which nearly ended with an interception. Why take that kind of risk when you finally started having your way a little with the defense?

Agreed, our OL is finally opening some lanes, Cokers getting his feet under him and then KOK throws a wrench in there that kills it.

You know who plays to win? Bryan Kaldinburg of Kalldenburk Consulting.

Iowa will call a reverse pass but not go for the win in regulation or man up and go for the fourth and 1 in the 3rd OT. Make sense? I think not!

I'm not saying KOK is the worst OC out there... but I certainly can't understand how some people still seem to think he is one of the better ones...

I find myself shaking my head at our offensive play calling fairly often. I'm pretty sure at one point yesterday we ran the same run play twice in a row to the same side and got stuffed both times. I could be wrong though... the bad offensive play calling became a blur after awhile.

That reverse pass was a ridiculous call. Not enough field to make it work. Not to mention that our offense doesn't play "fast" enough to pull it off.

And like some have mentioned, KFz will likely say "we tried a reverse pass, yet people say we're too predictable. What do they want?!" Being aggresive...does not = taking ridiculous long shots. His inability to understand the difference tells the story.

(No, he has not said that about the ISU game. But he's made similar statements in the past, and I'd be my last dollar he'd have a similar response now)

Couldn't agree more. It likes playing my 10yr. old cousin in NCAA. Didn't you just run that play last down, and the down before that?

Typical Kirk. When fans start complaining about the lack of imagination in our offense, he'll have a trick play called at an inopportune time, and when it (predictably) doesn't work he'll make a smart aleck comment about it to justify sticking to his usual ultraconservative game plan.

Interesting you think that Kirk tosses in the occasional (but inoppurtune) trick play just to placate the fans and to allow him to say "I told you so". I had no idea he coached out of spite for the fans.

I agree with everything you said but would also add kirksey in the guys that came to play.

Kirksey was a liability in pass coverage, as were most of our linebackers. I would just cringe when ISU went 4 or 5 wide and see a lb on them.

Kirk is gutless. Michigan showed what can and often does happen when you play to win. Has Iowa ever won a game in OT under Ferentz? Credit to Iowa State and Jantz that they have Kirk's number.

To name a few:

Penn State 2000, 2002
Michigan State 2007

That said, the loss falls completely on KF. A FG wins that game. With 1:17 left and 2 time outs, you GO FOR IT.

As mentioned... KF will trust his offense in OT, but not in regulation? Huh?

Although I cannot remember the specific games, I know there have been at least 2 occasions where he has been criticized for vanilla playcalling...and then the next game run some trick play (or go for it on 4th down) that failed, and when asked about it in the post game or on his call in show make some sort of "dig" at fans who want him to be more creative.

Do not be surprised to see Iowa go for it on a 4th down against Pitt....or with less than a minute in the half try passing the ball instead of running on first down.

McNutt is a weapon that may very well play in the NFL. Instead of launching Coker into 8 and 9 men fronts constantly, I think that we need to maximize talent/size mismatches wherever possible. This may be particularly important this year, as our D will apparently give up points. The offense needs to do everything it can to win games.

Castillo-(insert explitives of your choosing)

I didn't see any of the game yesterday but have seen nothing but criticism of Castillo on this board today. That only proves my point from a month ago (yes, chad I'm talking to you) that Castillo had yet to prove he was a Big Ten level cornerback, I hope Ferentz makes the necessary changes to our defense.
