IF Cezar does NOT commit...

I don't think so...

Does anyone else get the feeling with how hard Fran seems to be going after another top PG that this is his way of saying he doesn't think Cully has what it takes to lead this offense the way he wants? I like the fact that Fran realizes PG is the most important position on the floor.

all it means is that Fran wants the best roster possible next year. We are 11-19 and 4-14, so the roster is not where it needs to be from a talent standpoint. Yes, there will be some natural progression for players gaining more experience, but that is not enough to get Iowa to the upper division of the league. You have to keep increasing the overall talent level of the roster.

I don't think Fran is writing Cully Payne or any of the other players off. It's just that he's going to get the best players possible, and let the best ones play.

However, Fran has said over and over that he really wants a PG and a big in this class. So, his own words have seemed to indicate that he thinks there is a need at that position.

Really is interesting and will definitely be entertaining over the next month or so.

Here is a thought. Is it actually an advantage that Iowa's coaches can hit the pavement recruiting instead of preparing for the post-season?

Cully could very easily come back better or worse than last year. remember, he was only a few months removed from a major back injury when he got to iowa. this surgery could get everything cleaned up.

he could also not heal perfectly and his career could be over. who knows. Fran is doing the smart thing.

i would rather have carter than cezar if given that choice

This might happen, but we could get neither. What happens if we wait for Cezar and Carter goes elsewhere in the mean time, not wanting to wait on Iowa for crying out loud, and then Cezar goes somewhere else as well.

I'm wondering if it is a first come first serve, or if there are stipulations to Carter and Stokes that we are waiting for Cezar to decide first. Very dangerous circumstances if this is the way Iowa is playing it.

Also, there are a ton of good PG prospects on both the JUCO and prep level that Iowa is on. Missing on one isn't going to be the end of the world, there are a lot of options this spring for PGs.

I just do not see pg as an immediate need like getting a center really is...so,while it would be nice to get Cezar, I want a big guy more than a pg.

Carter would be a good pg recruit also,so I have not placed all my hopes on one guy.
In the end, there is no guarantee who will ultimately be a good Big Ten player, anyway. Recruiting buzz is fun,but I hold off til I see them play before declaring anything on how they will work out.

That just doesn't make any sense. You'll never miss a shot if you don't take one.

I will be disappointed if Cezar doesnt commit to the Hawks, but I'm happy Fran is going after more talented players, eventually he will land one, In order for a big reward you may have to take some risks,

NO. I'd love to have two starting lineups and make a Hockey rotation out of them. Load the stable full of thoroughbreds and let em' loose.

No. I think it is Fran's way of getting a kid a year of experience behind Cartwright, and having them both be able to play with Cully for a season. I think it is common knowledge that Cully will be a 2 and back up Cartwright. I don't think it's a slight on Cully, but he's just better as a 2 that can play PG when needed. I don't think even this year Cully was going to be the number 1 option at point.

I actually agree that he would make a better 2, and thats kind of what I was asking was is Fran saying this too which looks like he is. Question is does he even get more than 8 min a game at the 2 if healthy and if we upgrade our talent level like we are close to doing?

I think it depends on the type of PG recruit we get. I think he'd get at least 10 at the 2 to spell Gatens, and I think 5-10 depending on point guard recruit. Then after Cartwright leaves he would get even more time backing up the PG position.

This, if it indeed happens, makes me feel more optimistic. Kansas won't know who's leaving (if anyone) that soon so he probably won't get that conditional offer by then.

Doesn't mean they can't offer him after he commits somewhere and have him change his mind. I'm just saying.

True, but Kansas' chances of getting him wouldn't be as good. It's easier to get a kid to come to your school when he's still a free agent (so to speak). Getting them to de-commit is a taller task.

True, but if you committed to UNI cause Iowa hadn't offered, and then they did, would you stick with UNI or run screaming to Iowa. And yes I think that is an accurate comparison of our bball programs with that of KU right now.
