IF Bruce Pearl was hired, and all players/recruits return...

Why do you guys keep mentioning Bruce Pearl? The chances of him coming to Iowa are 0%

I'd just be interested to hear what Jon would put the likelyhood of Pearl coming to Iowa at? I personally would say about 10%. If the money is right, there's always a chance.

This.

You know the old saying "I wouldn't want to be a part of any club that would have me as a member"? Well, in all honesty, I don't trust the sanity of any coach who would leave a good program for Iowa. I also wouldn't trust his (already sketchy) ethics. If he ditches UT for the money, it is only a matter of time before he ditches Iowa for a bigger check somewhere else.

I don't think we have any shot at Pearl, but right now I would have no problem with a coach ditching Iowa for a bigger check as that means he probably would have had success at Iowa and the job would be more attractive by that time.

Jamie Pollard, what are you doing here?

Hilarious, like always. But do you really think a coach would somehow do worse than a 10-22 season at Iowa and get hired somewhere else for more money? Iowa St. has no tradition of success at football, Iowa does at basketball, the situations aren't even comparable.

I think it would be a combination for Pearl if he decided to leave Tennessee for Iowa. Of course the money would be the number one factor. But he has ties back to Iowa that he didn't have with Tennessee. I would like to think if he came to Iowa he would be here for the long haul. Unless of course a Kentucky or North Carolina type came calling. They would have the brand name and money to pull him away. Again, I think all of his Pearl talk is for nothing, but I just can't help but get excited about the small possibility that they could get him.

I think any coach will do better next season, including Todd Lickliter. This season was a perfect storm of sorts, caused in part by Lick (the transfers), Injuries, and Anothony Tucker. When a team has two upper classmen, three guards on scholarship, and 4 freshmen seeing big playing time, your team is going to be bad.

Ok, so a new coach comes in wins 15-16 games next season, 20 or so the following season, makes the NIT, fans warm back up to the program, and he leaves for more money. Well at the time the job will look better than it does now, this job very well could become a stepping stone job for the next coach or two until it gets back to level that Davis had it at. I don't really have a problem with that.

He has coached at Tennessee for as long as he coached at Iowa. Pearl's connection was to Tom Davis, not to Iowa. Pearl followed Davis from BC to Stanford to Iowa. To think that he always dreams of going to Iowa is kind of silly.

Pearl has new facilities at UT. He has the 5th highest attendance in the country at UT. He has finished top 3 in the conference every year at UT.

If he goes to Iowa, he will have facilities "soon", medicore attendance, and will finish in the basement the next few years (which will hurt his winning percentage, which is 3rd highest among active coaches).

He.
Isn't.
Coming.

They will not sell out Carver next year, because the team won't be much better next year.

But it's a name every Hawk hoops fan knows and he brings an exciting style of play that we were once used to. You have a lot better chance of filling seats if you're losing with an exciting style than you are losing with a boring style - see the last three years.

Damn, why do you have to kill my Pearl buzz with all of these facts and this insightful information!? I hear you and I think you're completely correct. Everything you're saying adds up to us having no chance at Pearl. Can't a man dream? It's been three years of basketball hell!

Also food for thought on the Pearl situation (from Twitter):

@iowahawkeyes @VoiceoftheHawks dont forget Pearl's son plays for tennesse and is Jr. this year. makes it even more improbable.

And how would he be perceived should he resurrect our program? Like a god.

You're right about that. But I think the point is why would he want to come here and take that gamble when he's already building a successful program at Tennessee? Pearl would be my number one choice as well, but if I'm really being honest with myself it just doesn't make sense for him to leave Tennessee.

I'm not going to allow myself to put all of my hopes in a coach that most likely will not come back to Iowa at this time.

He might not come to Iowa, but two out of the three things said above are wrong. Carver Hawkeye would be full and he would win early, as he has done everywhere he has coached.

i like all the talk here but WHY ON EARTH WOULD BRUCE LEAVE TENNESSEE? as a graduate of UT he is in one of the best Universities in the country (keep in mind i am a die hard Hawkeye Fan. i picked UT because i couldnt see myself going to iowa state).

he wasnt interested in the position when Alford left. what makes this time better if Lick resigns or is forced out? I like Steve Lavin, Chris Collins assistant at Duke with Chicago ties, and Bob Knight

The big thing that will probably keep Pearl in Knoxville is his divorce. I am not sure how old his younger children are, but if they are living with their mother (who owns a business in Knoxville named Alimony's Hair & Nail Salon), I doubt he wants to move so far away from them.

One other reason to stay in Knoxville is his Tennessee native trophy wife-to-be (I don't think they are married yet).
