If AJ Derby plays Saturday, which side of the ball?

On paper, at least, Indiana should provide opportunities for the second and third teamers for significant PT. At QB, that probably would have included AJ prior to his arrest and suspension.

There have been unofficial reports he has been practicing with the LBs this week, and supposedly has been doing a good job. So if he gets on the field Saturday, will it be on offense, or will he break the glass on defense?

Other. Special teams first and then defense if the game is out of hand, which it will be.

Would be my guess as well. Not sure who gets bounced off special teams, probably a starter nursing an injury. This should be a blowout, but given the last 6 years who knows.

Special Teams Defense and Offense and will become an all american in all three areas.

Maybe they have now seen enough of jake to know that he will be beating AJ out at QB in the future. Derby could have been a 4 year starter elsewhere on the team.

If Rudock does end up succeeding Vandy at QB you cant fault Derby or the coaches for giving him a shot at QB. That is where Derby wanted to play and that is where the coaches recruited him and they gave them their word that he would get a fair shot at the QB position.

If it doesnt work out and he starts for us for 3 years on defense, that is still a great contribution by the young man.

AJ was an all-American linebacker in high school and the top recruit in our state. He also averaged over 40 yds a punt and made the all-register team as both am LB & a punter. Dude is just a straight up sick athlete, you play him wherever the team can use him. I like the call that he becomes 1st team all BIG on O, D and ST! The next Kinnick with some scary size! Go Hawks!

AJ Derby didn't play LB in high school ... from what I understand, he played safety.

However, given his size and athleticism ... most folks were projecting him at either LB or TE in college.

He is going to come in at LB, but it won't be because the game is out of hand, but because the guy in front of him is getting beat. AJ will step in and shut that down. But not only that, he will intercept a pass in the flat and take it to the house for Pick 6. And, oh yeah, he will lead both teams in tackles...

;)

You can't just step in and play linebacker in the Big 10 after a weeks worth of practice at that position.

If he gets on the field at all, I think it will be on special teams but if I had to pick either offense or defense I think offense is more likely.

As others have said.. special teams but then Defense. If Kirk didn't say "AJ will be staying on offense" he might as well just have said "AJ is going to be moving to play D"

Special teams first ... then maybe also some reps in clean-up duty at LB (if the Hawks enter the game with the right attitude).

If he is still our real no. 2 qb, I don't think the staff would risk injury to him on special teams. Just sayin.

Think this is why the fist went through the window?

Now I know who to go to when I need solid, accurate information. Thanks
