I would welcome Royce on our team...

Say what you want...Royce would have helped the Hawks big time.

The good news is that he will be going pro soon.

(This ought to stir things up)

I live in a divided house with the wife, so I'm subjected to a lot of Cyclone talk & games.

You can't dispute....

1. great vision and handles
2. team player
3. made the most of his second chance w/Freddie and the Island of Misfit Toys
4. his baggage hasn't negatively affected the Clones....yet.

As a Hawk fan, hard to say this - but gotta give props to Fred. The guy had a clear course of action he chose to build this team, and it has paid off in a short amount of time.

Long term? Remains to be seen.

The thing is that their 2012 recruiting class looks pretty strong as well. The concern would be that they would mortgage the future for success in the present. It will be an interesting few years watching both these coaches develop their programs.

I think Royce will be back.
Secondly, yes, Royce would help our team....and I think he is VERY underutilized at ISU. IMO, there's no reason he shouldn't be scoring 20+ a game. I think Fred using him as a point forward, instead of a true 4, really limits his game.

Last night was really the first full game Ive watched Iowa State. He does a lot of things for them. I was more impressed with ISU's defense and rebounding. They got hot in the beginning, but they sustained it with grabbing boards and really forcing UCONN to shoot contested jumpers the entire night. Tough to come back when you cant get to the rim. Also that #13 PG for UCONN was absolutely terrible.

ISU doesn't have an adequate point guard. It forces Royce to play more point forward than he would otherwise.

We have no PG, so Fred has no choice. Also, Royce is better facing the basket than he is with his back to the hoop.

He is essentially a 6'8" 270# PG and his stats back that up. But you don't necessarily need to score more than 14ppg when you're providing the amount of assists that he does.

Might I add that this kid may have had some baggage, but he's been nothing but class since attending ISU. His problems are behind him I believe.

Royce is a real talent and it would have been nice to have had 2 White's on the court at the same time. He is a very unique player and will do well in the pros. Don't know why he wouldn't go pro after this season. Too much to lose ($$) on his part if he gets injured in college......see Jess Settles.

Last night was the first time I have watched 1 second of ISU hoops this year. I have to say that I was shocked by the physicality of the guy. He is a specimen to say the least. I realize he may not be Mother Theresa, but D1 sports is about winning, not helping orphans. In that sense, I would LOVE to have a guy like that playing in Iowa City.

Same here, I haven't watched an ISU game all year, but I agree it would have been damn nice to have Royce on our team. His versatility is insane, that drive down the lane with the dunk was pretty freakn sweet.

Royce has to strike while the iron is hot and get his money in the NBA. but I would take the hawkeyes white over their white any day of the week. our white will stay four years and leave behind a legacy few will or could ever match. don't care about who produces NBA talent, I want wins at the college level, that is what matters to me.

His anxiety wouldn't be able to hold up in a real conference like the Big 10. Plus he has very sticky fingers when around computers.

Just kidding. He is a really good basketball player and I would take him in a second. Just wanted to see if I could get some Cyclone fans blood boiling. It will be an interesting match up with T. Jones on him Saturday.

From what I have read current Mock Drafts don't have him listed in the top 60. Being projected to not be drafted is a pretty good reason to not leave school early.

Royce has already said that he'll sit down with Fred after the season and figure out whether he stays or leaves. If he plays extremely well tonight and somehow we win, then his stock will continue to rise.

He does have some holes in his game that make you think that he could benefit from another year. First, he still has work to do with his back-to-the-basket moves. Freethrows and outside jumpers are problematic.

On the other hand, he's 6'8" 270# and handles the ball as well as most guards. He's also as good of a passer as your average NBA PG. Not to mention he's a beast on the boards. Pretty solid defender too. He has definitely improved throughout the year on that end of the court.

He's unique, so it's hard to say how his game will translate and what kind of value the NBA will place on his skill sets.

I also have not seen ISU play this year, and have to say Royce was very impressive.
I am trying to figure out what position he will play in the NBA,tho. Small forward,I guess. How good of an outside shooter is he? I know he struggles from the line.
He is certainly a break the mold type of unique player,so he might just create his own position with the help of an inventive coach.
This is going to be an extremely strong draft,so he might just opt to stick around another year.
It should be interesting to watch some of Kentucky's NBA prospects go against White. Terrance Jones is also a beast, and those two might match up.
Freddy has done a great job, I have to admit it. I did not think this could fall into place this well, but he made it happen. They have a lot of athletes on that team.
The Hawks will have their hands full next December in Carver.

I watched the whole game, really thought they would choke in the 2nd. I hate to say it, but the 2nd half was pure coaching on Fred's part. Outside shots cooled off and Fred stayed with very high percentage shots and managed the clock. For 2nd year in coaching... he is looking pretty good.

Royce can't shoot a lick. If he could he'd be gone for sure. It will be interesting to see what transpires. I don't think he's ready but Fred will get proper information and things will go from there.
