I want an Eric Hansen type

I agree with the premise of your post, but we need to do a lot better than Erik Hansen type post players if we want to get out of the cellar. I would take a Reggie Evans, Cy Tate, etc., over another skinny guy who isn't physial down low. We are a very soft team on the boards. Woodbury and Meyer will certainly help, but they physicality of the big ten will require a period of adjustment for both IMO.

Woody definitelt has better shooting and offensive skills, but he's more of a Tim Duncan type.

in the post. Is Woodbury the guy?

If you watch a video of Adam you will see he already has more bulk than Erik Hansen. I'am thinking in his Soph. year he will look more like Meyers Leonard of Illinois. I really like the idea that Adam is left handed and can go to the basket with either hand. Will be nice to have a skilled big for a change!

Did he mean defensive presence as a center? Because I have no read much that says Woodbury is a great defensive player.

Woodbury will not be the defensive player Hansen was. He will be much better offensively.

The Tim Duncan comparison was interesting. He's not as athletic as TIM but the offensive skills are similar.

Hansen had a triple-double his first two years at Iowa; he scored 46 points, got 46 rebounds, and blocked 39 shots. I think we all expect quicker impact out of Woodbury.

he doesnt need to block shot. his height will alter some shots though and allow weakside shot blockers (i.e. white, basabe) to block more. his offense will allow for a lot more open shots as there wont be the sagging off as we will have 5 legit scoring threats on the floor at almost every time.

Are you crazy?

Adam Woodbury is 10x the player that Eric Hansen was.

There is a reason he has all the accolades he does. You are shooting pretty low if you hope he is Eric Hansen. I will be really disappointed if he is Eric Hansen.

He has gone against the best of the best in AAU ball and various camps there is a reason he is ranked the 7th BEST CENTER IN THE COUNTRY!

Has Iowa hoops fallen this far that fans can't expect great things from a recruit that should be very good by the middle of his sophomore year.

If Woody had Erik's quickness and leaping/shotblocking ability, he would be a top 20 player, not a top 43 player. Erik had very little of the offensive skills of Woody, tho.

At the same point in their careers, Erik weighed about 205 lbs, whereas Woody is reportedly at 245....very helpful for Woody. Erik was thin as a reed when he got to Iowa, and only slightly heavier when he left. Woody should build up to 255 or more, pretty easily with his additional 2 inch heighth over Erik, and bigger frame, bigger base. There is no question that Woody has a much higher ceiling than Erik, especially on the offensive end. Erik was Defensive POY in the Big Ten his senior year,so he was almost a defensive specialist, and a good one.

I actually believe our last true dominant center type was Acie Earl. Forget Hansen, Jared Reiner, and Evans (although I feel Evans was a true 4 man).

I really think it has been that long that Iowa has not had a true center. Hopefully Woodbury will have an impact like Acie Earl had.

This. Hansen wasn't an offensive player. And he didn't need to be, with Horner, Brunner and Haluska on the floor, plus Pierce for a while. He was a great shot blocker and garbage man under the basket for us, but without a guy like Brunner next to him cleaning the glass, we probably wouldn't have as many fond memories of him. His teammates made up for his weaknesses.

Woodbury is going to be much better than that.

What are you talking about here?

I just hope people don't put unrealistic expectations on Woodbury. I think it may take him awhile to get acclimated to the physicality of the B10.

And for the people bashing Hansen- we could REALLY use a guy like him right now as our defense is pathetic.
