I want an Eric Hansen type

If wish listing Iowa needs Reggie Evans type. What Iowa is doing this year with no point guard and no center two words look out

I think that they are very different players. From what I can tell, Woodbury isn't a physical big man, he's more of a skilled, finesse type scorer. Also he seems like a great passer, which will be huge. He's not at all a Reggie Evans/Cyrus Tate type. If that's true, hopefully the fan base won't get frustrated. That's who he is as a player.

However, the comparison makes sense because of the natural similarities in size and body type. I'm not saying Woodbury is incapable of improvement or anything like that. I predict he will be really good at Iowa and improve greatly over the course of his career. But I don't predict any huge physical changes. "Get him in the weight room" doesn't really apply, does it? With basketball players, you usually don't see huge weight gains. We're not talking about Robert Gallery here, this is basketball. And if you do see big strength-weight gain, positive results don't always follow. I would love to see him get his weight up to around 240-250 and get stronger legs, to be more explosive. Have him get to the point where he can dunk a lot and always be at the rim, but I don't see it happening.

Skilled yes, but not a finesse player at all. Having good skills, good touch and good footwork does not make one a finesse player.

Hes a true back to the basket player.

At 7'1 hes going to be very hard to guard for most college teams.

Hansen wasn't bad and it never hurts to have a player like him on your roster but Woodbury is on a whole other level. Why wish for Brody Boyd if you already have Andre Woolridge in the mix?

I don't think being very tall is the advantage you think it is. Adam has never played against built and experienced college players, and they don't give a lick about his size.

LOL, well regardless of what you think, it is an enormous advantage.

Watch Withey of Kansas if you don't think being 7 foot is a big advantage.

There is definitely going to be an adjustment period on offense and to the strength, speed and quickness of college big men. Whether that period lasts only a month, or a year, or longer is a good question for debate.

Withey is a red shirt junior averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds this year after averaging 2 ppg 2 rpg and 1 ppg 1 rpg his first two years. He was ranked about the same out of high school by rivals as Adam.

Would you say the expectations for Woodbury are higher or lower than these numbers?

I know a kid who is 7'2", and despite that, he is red-shirting for a Mo Valley team that is starting a 6'9" sophomore at Center. Obviously, he was not the same caliber of player that Adam is (not much of a shooter, but a hell of a shot blocker), but still, being very tall has not provided him much of an advantage.

since Iowa does not count blocks as a stat, nobody has anything to go by as to how good he is at blocking, but it seem that everyone complains about is his lack of video showing him dunking, these are simple 1 or 2 minute videos showcasing his skills, unless you have gone to a game and seen him in action for the entire game, nobody is in a position to debate his ability to either dunk or not

Probably similar to those numbers.

My point was that guys like that would never be anything more than mid major talent if they were in the 6'8 rang rather than 7 foot.

Being 7 foot is a huge difference.

Ok, Ill put it this way, it is potentially a huge advantage.

He is 7'1 of course he can dunk! I don't think anyone thinks he can't dunk.

As Hubie Brown (former NBA/ABA coach, current NBA TV analyst, and Basketball Hall of Fame Member) ALWAYS says during each telecast. Big men need to think dunk every time they touch the ball in the paint, and they should be dunking with two hands.

Dunking all the time is a higher percentage shot, is harder to block, people tend to avoid trying to block it, and it leads to a greater chance for an and one.

I agree his clips are obviously limited but there were some chances where you would like to see him flat out attack the rim. I think as he adds more lower body strength, upper body strength and playing against taller guys he might get more aggressive going to the rim attempting to dunk.

The way some people talk youd think woodbury has already been at iowa. Lets not crown the kid before he gets to campus
