I thought ISU lost to Nebraska

If I had to guess, just using my brother as a sampling, I would guess tha most fans were encouraging the team rather than congratulating them on a near win.

But then we see things as we want to see them.

Exactly. But why were there Iowa fans seeing it in the first place? I thought we didn't care about ISU?

I guess that is how some of you look at things. No one wants to lose, but you can keep your head up knowing you gave it your best. Its not like they lost buy 3 points or failed in a last ditch drive. A bad pass to a guy who would of been open if it had any fling to it and they win the game. Hawks havent been playing the cyclones for 105 years so you wouldnt understand what it means to want to beat a team that has beaten you 80% of the time. Am i glad Nebraska won, of course but ISU played with guts and they didnt give up. I admire that alot, as well as sticking by your players when they just had there guts ripped out on a trick play that would of worked.

This. Not sure what the big deal was, but its not like we stormed the field or anything. Just gave the team a standing ovation as they walked off. Not sure if we are supposed to boo them or what?

Honestly I can't believe how some people are getting so riled up for the ISU fans showing appreciation for their players after a very hard fought game. These same people must have forgotten about Iowa's game against NW last year when a large majority of the fans applauded the team even after they lost the game. They weren't celebrating the fact that we lost; rather they were showing their appreciation for what that team had done for the first 9 weeks of the season and how proud of them they were. I swear some people will do anything to find a reason to bash on Iowa State.

Oh, but we don't care about what ISU does, oh no! Lol

Sounds like a fan base that isn't use to winning.

Everybody gets trophies! Yay!

Did all the fans meet the team at Dairy Queen after the game? Yay!

And FWIW, I don't remember anyone cheering after the NW loss.

I remember a lot of silence and F bombs.

People always cheer at the end of the game when the band plays the fight song as the team leaves the field. But I don't think it has anything to do with praising the team for a loss.

I don't look for reasons to "bash" ISU fans, but I don't look for reasons to go out of my way to defend them. Especially considering how delusional some of them are.

Right, it's a cryin' a** shame that a fan base is proud of their team and said team's effort against a team that is vastly superior.

Seriously, who cares? Let them be proud of their team. That's what fans are supposed to do.

Have we really gotten so jaded that we look down on other team's fans for being proud of their team after a loss?

I'm not stopping anyone from being proud of anything. I just think its odd/stupid to applaud after a loss.

You can be proud, but to applaud and run on the field as if you won the game?

Thats another level of pathetic.

Like I said, its a fan base that isn't use to winning.

You can't even compare this and the NW game. Seriously?

You were a top ten team undefeated, and lost to an unranked team at home.

Lost your QB for the game.

Backup QB played terrible.

Plenty of chances to win.

I wouldn't cheer either, hell I would be ******.

FYI, I didn't cheer as the team ran off, I was still in a state of shock. Do you have to knock us for everything? Seriously, go out and celebrate your impressive win @ Indiana and leave our reaction to our fanbase.

Here's a novel thought. If you're looking for people to agree with you about how noble your team was in defeat and that it is perfectly appropriate to run down on the field to offer congratulations to the team, stay on your own site. To think that you are going to get the same self serving pap on your arch rival's site is naive at best. I didn't even like our students going on the field after a thrashing of undefeated Michigan State; I would be incensed if they did it after a loss, no matter close the score was. Also, the fact that Nebraska had to start their inexperienced 3rd string quarterback and not their freshman phenom might have had a tad bit to do with the close outcome as well.

I'm all for ripping on ISU fans, but this entire thread seems to be based on the idea that they stormed the field Saturday, which didn't happen.

It's a program that's not used to winning. People who were around for those 19 awful seasons in Iowa history will tell you that a 5-win season was fantastic, just cause for celebration, even if it was mediocre at best. We've been in those shoes, too.

The fans should have applauded the effort. The players aren't satisfied, and that's all that really matters. They aren't going to accept this as a victory. The fans should have applauded the effort, though. Make it very clear to the players that they are proud of that team.

It's not much different than applauding the losing team (meaning your team won) after an extremely well-played game. Show some class and applaud your team, even in a loss, when they play the way ISU did on Saturday.

ISU fans actually (for the most part) are more realistic than a lot of Iowa fans. Many realize they aren't any kind of world-beater. They realize that the program is in a building phase right now. And they made it clear that they are proud of the team even in a losing effort like that. Unlike some of our fans, who boo some of the players (the deal with Shada is always going to be a black mark against the fan base), and who will turn their backs if the team doesn't perform to their expectations (see: Iowa Men's Basketball).

TM, you must have got stuck going to graduate school at Iowa after your love affair in Ames ended. Your various posts sound anything but like those of someone who views the Hawks as "our" team. If you think good fans are those that fill their 50,000 seat stadium only when Iowa or Nebraska dump another 15,000 fans on Ames than yes they are great fans. The idea that Iowa boos more than other rabid fans is ridiculous; there are few places in America that provide the home team more of a home field advantage than Kinnick and Ames is surely not one of them.

You know how I know that Iowa had a less than pleasing showing on Saturday? The amount of hate ISU get's for showing appreciation to a team that played their ***** off against a team that has historically owned them. Is it so bad over there that some of you have to look for something to bash the Cyclones over?

Even though we haven't played Ohio St for 105 years we understand what it means to want to beat a team that has beaten us 80% of the time.

Either that or they celebrate losses. Their fans took the field to congratulate the players. From Rashawn Parker in the DSM Register- "There were a lot of people down there congratulating us, one wasn't. He was saying some pretty bad things, things that disrespected our team and the players."

I was at the Wisconsin game, but I don't recall our fans taking the field let alone congratulating or disrespecting the team and/or players.

I think it is fine. You have to remember that ISU is not an elite team in the national title hunt every year like Iowa.
