I see Dish Network restored the Big Ten Network and Fox Sports Channels, would you still drop Dish?

We started trying out streaming services when they were dropped. We tried Hulu, Playstation Vue, and are now using Youtube TV. We like Youtube TV the best. Hulu image seemed to go from clear to grainy often and Playstation Vue has the best picture, but buffers every 10-30 seconds making it unwatchable.

We have almost zero issues with Youtube TV and it gets all of the sports channels, and a lot of the major network channels (like AMC, TBS, etc). And the local channels.

We still have Dish and Dish's picture quality is still better than the streaming services. But, we are paying 110.00 a month for Dish where Youtube TV would only cost 50.00 a month. We also have had NetFlixs for several months.

How do you all feel about your viewing choices and what would you do?

If we dropped Dish, we would have to pay a 200.00 penalty because we are still under contract for 2 years. We bought Amazon Firesticks for our TVs already as well.

Odd

Just as an aside. No Iowa games so far have even been on BTN and next week obviously isn’t either. I don’t even have BTN and haven’t missed a thing.

We dropped Dish about a month ago and stream with PSVue. Although Dish’s viewers guide and DVR are great it was hard to swallow $150 per month. We now pay a third of that price and still get most of the channels we had with Dish.

If you are moving to streaming and haven't done so already I would upgrade the equipment you use to access the internet. IE Modem & Router.

The equipment given to you by your service provider is going to be a pile of garbage. Buy a modem with 24+ channels and buy a router/access point that is at least dual band. Need at least 1 2.4 ghz channel and 1 5 ghz channel. Use the 5ghz channel whenever possible.

For modem I would recommend the Arris Surfboard line. For Router I would recommend Netgear Nighthawk x6 AC3200 or better.

Yeah, gotta keep up on that pivotal 10 versus 11 battle for the single bye in the first round of the BTT.

Literally nothing about Iowa’s team or schedule would move me to get the BTN. Maybe if they are above .500 by mid January I’ll make a move. I’ll settle for dolph and Bobby.

Most people don’t just watch iowa. Bad take and I cannot imagine living that way

Thanks for the advice from everyone thus far. Highly likely we are dropping Dish and keeping youtube tv. By the way, if we have century link for our internet provider, how does it work with

YouTube TV works great with Centurylink since they don’t have Data caps. So in other words you won’t get charged more because you will no be using more data since you are streaming your TV. I had 40 megs, and streaming worked great. Got an offer to get 100 megs for the same price, so I jumped on that and I never have buffering problems, ever.

What game on BTN would you have watched that was worth watching this year? I can’t imagine a world where you would willingly watch a BTN game ahead of the SEC game of the week on CBS, or the fox big noon game or the prime time abc/ESPN games.

The only purpose the conference network games serve other than when your team is playing is to give you a gap filler during commercials or if there are blowouts. No one gives a shit about games like Arkansas-Ol' Miss or Purdue-Illinois.

For Centurylink the Router would stay the same but the Modem will change to a DSL modem. Arris Surfboard series has DSL versions as well. A lot of DSL modems will come with built in routers/access points. I would recommend not using the router or access point and just turn those off in the settings on the modem. Go with a stand alone router/access point for best results.

Be cautious with going the Centurylink route as your speed will be dependent on your distance from the exchange, as well as the quality of of the wire running from the pole to your house. Make sure they can give you a guarantee on your speed based on the location of your property. Generally an HD feed will need between 6-8 MB of download speed for optimal viewing. All devices actively using the connection will absorb some of your download speed. I believe the standard Centurylink speed is 40 MB, so if they can guarantee that speed you should be good to go.
