I see Dish Network restored the Big Ten Network and Fox Sports Channels, would you still drop Dish?

For Centurylink the Router would stay the same but the Modem will change to a DSL modem. Arris Surfboard series has DSL versions as well. A lot of DSL modems will come with built in routers/access points. I would recommend not using the router or access point and just turn those off in the settings on the modem. Go with a stand alone router/access point for best results.

Be cautious with going the Centurylink route as your speed will be dependent on your distance from the exchange, as well as the quality of of the wire running from the pole to your house. Make sure they can give you a guarantee on your speed based on the location of your property. Generally an HD feed will need between 6-8 MB of download speed for optimal viewing. All devices actively using the connection will absorb some of your download speed. I believe the standard Centurylink speed is 40 MB, so if they can guarantee that speed you should be good to go.

Thanks Healzya.

We started trying out streaming services when they were dropped. We tried Hulu, Playstation Vue, and are now using Youtube TV. We like Youtube TV the best. Hulu image seemed to go from clear to grainy often and Playstation Vue has the best picture, but buffers every 10-30 seconds making it unwatchable.

We have almost zero issues with Youtube TV and it gets all of the sports channels, and a lot of the major network channels (like AMC, TBS, etc). And the local channels.

We still have Dish and Dish's picture quality is still better than the streaming services. But, we are paying 110.00 a month for Dish where Youtube TV would only cost 50.00 a month. We also have had NetFlixs for several months.

How do you all feel about your viewing choices and what would you do?

If we dropped Dish, we would have to pay a 200.00 penalty because we are still under contract for 2 years. We bought Amazon Firesticks for our TVs already as well.

You are going to make that $200 up over time, but it's $200 still. I'd recommend keeping your Dish for a few months until it goes down a bit and you cut a few more losses then kick them to the curb. You'd be just going thru the same shit down the road anyway, the contracting and losing channels shit.

I took advise from a few posters on this site and dropped Dish and went to youtubetv. You tube has all the sports channels and local channels I want for half the price. So my answer is drop dish.

.............and it wasn't a big deal to change, was it? Don't you end up asking yourself "Why the hell didn't I do this earlier!?".

Also, how do you like NOT having all that equipment and cords?

If you are moving to streaming and haven't done so already I would upgrade the equipment you use to access the internet. IE Modem & Router.

The equipment given to you by your service provider is going to be a pile of garbage. Buy a modem with 24+ channels and buy a router/access point that is at least dual band. Need at least 1 2.4 ghz channel and 1 5 ghz channel. Use the 5ghz channel whenever possible.

For modem I would recommend the Arris Surfboard line. For Router I would recommend Netgear Nighthawk x6 AC3200 or better.

Agree. You are bringing the house in. You have to have a nice foundation to put it on. Help yourself out and get proper equipment and bandwidth download. Then won't have a problem.

Actually the math says to do it now, don't wait.

Pay $200 now, +$50 a month for YTTV for 4 months and you have paided out $400

Stay with Dish Network for 4 months, pay out $440 and still have a $120 buy out remaining on Dish Network.

I agree. I'd do it but some have a hard time with that, even though one is going to make it up quickly. I agree. Yea, one has to remember they are paying bloated prices for the next few months. Nice point.

Funny you say that, I just saw a Schwann's man and truck the other day. I often wondered if they were still running the routes.
A guy I went to high school with drives a truck in the Spencer/Okoboji area and he's not ugly. He says you wouldn't believe the crazy shit that's come to the door at certain houses when kids are at school and the husband is at work or out in the field.

Ha. Please elaborate!

I got a buddy who when young, like in college years had a job delivering furniture or something like that. Can't quite remember if was that or some kind of service. Anyway, he and his buddy ended up going to this house and some mid 60's redhead woman came to the door. I think she may have been widowed. She's was the typical middle-aged, slightly out-of-shape but with some still cougaristic qualities. Prob nice looking for her age. They would flirt back and forth. He and she ended up taking her out on some gravel road and they found a place and he ended up doing you know what on the car.

I never seemed to have that luck when I was younger. No horny teachers either.

Been with Youtubetv since March and wouldn’t go back to DTV. Love the sports. Sure there are a lot of channels I don’t watch but paying 50 versus 140. Hope someday someone comes up with an alacarte service. I had to up my Mediacom to cover data caps but they gave me a deal for 1 year.
