I think you nailed this one. Until we get this program turned a bit to the right direction, whatever we as fans might think this just isn't that attractive of a job. Lack of talent, lack of a home recruiting base, poor support from students, etc. To think we were in line to get Pearl, Lavin, Drew, etc wasn't realistic given the state of our program. I don't know much about the new guy but I'm liking what I've read so far. Lick needed to go ... Let's see if we can re-energize this program and take things from there.

I can't believe some of the idiots on this board that are dooming the program before the guy has coached 1 freaking game! If he can just stop the transfers in year 2 he'll do better than Lickliter did.

Maybe another Mid-major flavor of the month, but maybe this time is a better fit. It isn't the fact that Lickliter's system wasn't working, it was the fact he couldn't keep anybody. Based on the fact from another post that we can actually find pictures of him embracing players, smiling, pumping his fist might show that he can keep players that want to play for him. Let the guy coach first, maybe you'll change your tune. Now is the perfect time to be optimistic. A new chapter of Iowa BBall! Embrace it, don't hate it.

Wow so much for circling the wagons we might as well have a bon fire.Never seen so many coaches on one board.Give him a chance just like a football coach that every one wanted to throw under the bus.
 
LMAO, Iowa just hired another mid major coach and some of you act like we are supposed to be jumping for joy. WOO HOO!!!! We just got whats-his-name from Siena.

I do hope he turns the program around. But a lot of people here were wanting a big name, ok we did not get that. But if you're going to hire a coach from the mid majors this is the best you can do? Two weeks ago I was slammed on here for even suggesting Ben Jacobson as a coach and then we get this.

Mid major? I wish. I bet the entire enrollment from the whole MAAC is barely higher than the enrollment at Iowa. It's more like the conference with Coe, Loras and Simpson got together and got pictures of someone on the NCAA selection committee in a compromising position and they are using them to coerce the committee to give them a seat at the big kids' table once a year.

I can't complain, though. After you jackals ran Davis, Alford and Lickliter off, it's no wonder we are relegated to stealing coaches out of the MAAC.

I understand not being elated. Given the past two hires. But every coach brings something different to the table. So I don't think we should be burning Barta at the stake. What big name would have taken the job? Really? Think about it. Let the guy coach and be supportive, you don't have to be excited, but you haven't even given him a chance yet.
