OK, no offense but this may be the dumbest thread ever. Stanzi doesn't cover on kickoffs. Stanzi doesn't punt. Stanzi doesn't kick. Stanzi doesn't play 3rd and 4th down defense. I guess if you expect Stanzi to be responsible for all of those things then yeah, he is not having a "great" season.

Yeah, I'm dumb. I'll revise my topic:
The fact that Stanzi has had two opportunities to lead team his victory at the end of the two most important games of the season and hasn't been able to move the ball down the field while taking inexplicable sacks despite being a 5th year senior are insignificant next to the fact that he has incredible numbers against below average defenses and teams. He should win the Heisman!!

Yep, I remember thinking about how much Stanzi sucked when he whizzed that ball into a blanketed McNutt on 3rd and 21. Also when he tried to spike the ball and wasn't allowed to by the sideline.
People act like a quarterback directing a game-winning drive with under 2:00 is easier than a two dollar whore. It's actually quite rare. We had 66 seconds from right around our own 20. We made it to midfield, should have had a great opportunity, and effed it up. It happens. I watched Brett Favre do it two nights ago. I've seen Tom freaking Brady take bad sacks at the worst time. Stanzi has done it right before, and done it wrong before. He would have never been in the position to attempt it on Saturday if he hadn't played so well the entire game.

Stanzi takes inexplicable sacks? Like how the Wisconsin DE made an awesome play and the line decided to take the final series off against Arizona? Stanzi is hardly the driving force behind the inexplicable sacks.

I disagree, I think he IS having a GREAT year. 68%, 16 tds, 2 INT, 1700 yards, 2nd highest passer rating in the nation.
Please don't forget that vs Arizona, Stanzi was pretty much our only offense, and brought us back into the game that 2nd half. And yes, we all wish Stanzi would not have used the timeout, but our coaching staff has always struggled with clock management, so you really can't put that all on Rick.

Well next time you should try harder when thinking of a topic. Or try harder to focus when you watch the next game. You can come up with a reply for me but it looks like no one else thinks this is a good thread/point of view.

There's nothing wrong pointing out Stanza's anymore than pointing out special teams or someone on the defense IMO. There is blame to go around everywhere during that game. The only thing is we need our Sr. QB to take over the game when the time arises and he has faltered of late. I just wonder if they drilled him to hard on just not losing the game too much. Just a thought but he seems very tentative putting the ball in those close gaps when our backs are against the wall.

Stanzi's resume:
Strengths:
- took over as QB for an Iowa program that was at it's lowest point of the Ferentz era
- led the same Iowa program to the arguably the highest point it's ever been
- didn't lose a game my junior year
- won a freaking Orange Bowl my junior year
- 19-2 in my last 21 games
- 2nd in the nation in passing efficiency
Weaknesses:
- I threw 5 INTs in 2 quarters of 25mph wind in 2009, which skewed my TD/INT ratio, which made national pundits think that I was overly prone to INTs.

I remember why I don't get on here very much anymore. We have more idiots that have probably never played a down of football in their life at any level, and were always jealous of the quarterback at recess back in 3rd grade, because they always wanted to be the QB and didn't have the arm or the sack to do it. So now they come on message boards and rip on a guy who has put his heart and soul into this team, and by almost any standard imaginable is having a great season.
So what's the time limit of when we get the ball for a last second drive that it wouldn't be Stanzi's fault if we don't score? If we get the ball trailing by 7 with 5 seconds left, should he be able to throw it from end zone to end zone, catch the ball himself, and then dropkick the extra point in as well?
