I love Rittenburg but simple mistakes in simple facts is ridiculous

Is the Big Ten's BCS streak in jeopardy? - Big Ten Blog - ESPN

His premise is that if Oregon goes to the National Title, than Stanford would be an attractive pick for the Rose Bowl to replace them.

Of course as we all know, that the Rose Bowl has to take a non automatic qualifier if they lose a team to the N.C. game. If Oregon goes to the National Championship game, they have to take TCU or Boise State if they are ranked in the top 4.

For a guy covering the Big 10 to not know how the Rose Bowl is working this year is pretty brutal, especially for a guy who I have come to expect really good journalism and opinions from.

you should probably read the article below that one before you criticize. It explains how he talked to Rose Bowl officials and clarified the rule, which he explains.

I don't know, maybe the guy was working on no sleep or something. How can he not realize that the winner of the Big 10 gets the auto bid no matter what? If the Rose has to take a non-AQ, that team will fill the vacant spot the Pac 10 left, not the Big 10's.

If that was the premise of the article, that TCU goes to the NC game, than what he is saying is that a BCS game would pick Boise State over an available Big Ten team.

Yah. Right.

The Big 10 champ will be in the Rose Bowl this year already. They aren't going to take an "available" Big 10 team to play the Big Ten champ...

This. Rittenberg has conceded that the Big 10 won't have a team in the NCG and thus will send its champion to the Rose.

I'd like to hear Jon's take on this though, because he doesn't have the Pac 10 slotted to get two BCS bids, but to most people Stanford seems like a no-brainer.

That's not what I am saying, I am saying that a Big Ten team to another BCS game is going to be more attractive than Boise St.

Stanford couldn't even come close to selling out their stadium for a night game against a top 15 opponent in what amounted to a BCS elimination game. They are a horribly unattractive choice to any BCS bowl but the Rose.

The only way Stanford goes to the Rose Bowl is if Oregon goes to the NC against either TCU or Boise St, if TCU or Boise St are in the NC game then the Rose doesn't have to take a non AQ school and would select Stanford as the replacement for Oregon, otherwise it will be Big Ten v. PAC 10, TCU or Boise St.

Well, he is saying the Rose could take a Non-AQ to take the spot of the vacated PAC 10 team, not Big Ten team. But how that leads to his article on if the Big Ten is at risk of not getting two teams into the BCS still stands, in that Boise and TCU could both get at large bids. I also think that if things play out across the nation as I am projecting them now, that both will get in...but I don't think that will be at the expense of a Big Ten team.

But if the Rose takes Stanford because the non AQ goes to the NC game, than they are not relieved of their non AQ obligation and would need to do so again.

Jon - I think Boise gets in if TCU goes to the NC Game.

Last year, the Fiesta went for the intriguing matchup.

The Rose would take Boise because it is regional and satisfies their non AQ requirement.

For the Rose to take Stanford, they would have to feel so strongly about them, that they would be willing to take the non AQ team again much sooner.

If a non AQ goes to the NC game then the Rose doesn't have the obligation to take a non AQ school anymore and can take anyone to replace Oregon.

The Rose is completely different then the Fiesta, they want to keep tradition as much as possible and why they won't select Boise to replace Oregon if TCU is in the NC and they don't have the non AQ obligation, they will keep it Big Ten v. Pac 10 and take Stanford v. the Big Ten Champ.

Exactly.

BUT doesn't the Rose than have to take a non AQ again next year rather than another 5?

So the question becomes, is Stanford a strong enough pick for the Rose, because if they take them, they have to take the non AQ again next year.

They have to do it every year for the next 3 or 4 years, ONLY IF THE BIG TEN OR PAC 10 CHAMP MAKE THE NC, they don't have to take a non AQ team and sacrifice the Big Ten/PAC 10 matchup. Say Oregon makes the NC and TCU doesn't this year, then the Rose must take TCU or Boise, same thing next year, say a Big Ten team makes the NC and TCU or Boise is in the top 12, then it is TCU/Boise against the PAC 10. This isn't rocket science. If the Big Ten or PAC 10 aren't in the NC then the Rose Bowl has no obligations to any of the non AQ schools in any year.

There is no guarantee the Big Ten or PAC 10 will be in the NC next year, just like there is no guarantee a non AQ school will be in the top 12 next year to qualify.

If TCU/Boise play Oregon in the NCG, then Stanford will get the nod to play the Big Ten Champ. But there is NO WAY that a top 4 team (which undefeated Boise/TCU will be) doesn't make it as an at-large. Can you imagine the sh*tstorm that would rise up if the non-AQ won the title, and the other didn't get one of the at-large spots?

The BCS will get Boise and TCU in if they are both undefeated (which is likely). They have to in order to protect their business.

Why would there be a shitstorm about that? The BCS could claim the system works, it gave the little guy a shot at the title.
