I love Rittenburg but simple mistakes in simple facts is ridiculous

Why would there be a shitstorm about that? The BCS could claim the system works, it gave the little guy a shot at the title.

I'm talking about sh*storm for creating a playoff. Washington is already starting to sniff around this stuff.

I know what you're saying, but having a non AQ win or even play for the title would suggest that the BCS works and everyone has a shot. It wouldn't matter if Boise St. got passed over for a BCS game, they could still claim the system worked and teams from non BCS conferences have a legitimate shot.

Is the Big Ten's BCS streak in jeopardy? - Big Ten Blog - ESPN

His premise is that if Oregon goes to the National Title, than Stanford would be an attractive pick for the Rose Bowl to replace them.

Of course as we all know, that the Rose Bowl has to take a non automatic qualifier if they lose a team to the N.C. game. If Oregon goes to the National Championship game, they have to take TCU or Boise State if they are ranked in the top 4.

For a guy covering the Big 10 to not know how the Rose Bowl is working this year is pretty brutal, especially for a guy who I have come to expect really good journalism and opinions from.

You need to understand his entire context, not just the paragraph he made that statement. Of course he knows that the Rose Bowl is obligated to take a non-AQ school if Oregon plays for the NC game. He just had a blog entry right before this article explaining that.

In that paragraph he is making an assumption (not explicitly stated) that TCU or Boise is in the NC game and therefore the Rose could take Stanford and give the Pac 10 two teams to the BCS. Nothing he said is incorrect if you look at it from a certain point of view.

I just don't see it going over very well if the #3 team in the country (my predicted final ranking for Boise/TCU assuming one makes the NCG) gets passed over for an at-large bid. When was the last time the #3 team didn't make one of the BCS bowls? Never.

only one top-4 non-AQ is guaranteed a BCS game. boise is not going to pass TCU, so i think they are screwed.

I understand the basis of what he is saying, but I think it is a long-shot...

#1 Oregon really only has Arizona standing in their path the NCG. I think it is a pretty good bet that they get there.

#2 Auburn really only has Arkansas standing in their way (the SEC championship game vs USC or Florida seems very winable).

I think that, at this point, Oregon v. Auburn would be the most likely match-up.

If Auburn loses, though, then I would expect TCU to step into the NCG. It is perfectly reasonable that the Rose Bowl would select Stanford to replace Oregon and play the BigTen champion.

He is assuming that Boise State will still stay in the top 4 or 5, and I'm not sure that is the case. They don't play anybody else this year, so they will be falling in the computers. If you look at the other teams around them, it is very likely that they could pass them in the rankings:

#2 Auburn - if they lose to Arkansas, they might drop to #5 or #6, at the lowest

#5 LSU - plays Arkansas + (potentially) the SEC championship game - it is easy to see them jumping BSU with wins in both those games

#6 Stanford - really don't play anyone remarkable - still, ending up at 11-1 in a major conference, I can see them gettignthe nod to jump BSU...

#7 Wisc - if they win out (including beating Mich) and finish 11-1, I can easily see them jumping BSU

#8 Nebraska - for them to win out, that means that they will beat #10 OSU in the Big12 championship game (+ #25 Texas A&M) - can definitely see Nebraska having a shot to pass BSU

#9 - Ohio State - beating Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan in the last 3 weeks would definitely jump OSU over BSU

#10 - Oklahoma State - they have Oklahoma and the Big12 championship (Nebraska) still on their slate - winning out has a decent chance for them to jump up (although I suspect that they wouldn't pass BSU)

#11 - Michigan State - finishing 11-1 in the BigTen could propel these guys up the rankings. The big loss to Iowa might keep them from jumping BSU, but it might not...

I guess all I am saying is that, even though BSU should win out, I think there is a real possibility that they are ranked 8 or 9 in the BCS when it comes time for Bowl selection. There are a bunch of teams sitting there with 1 loss that could pass them...

I'm not saying that they have an automatic spot. Only one AQ team is guaranteed a spot if they are in the top 4. But, it would be outrageous for the #3 team in the country to NOT land in the Rose/Sugar/Orange/Fiesta Bowls. They'd be resigned to the Humanitarian Bowl played on their turf (I believe that's where the WAC champion plays unless they make the BCS).

If the BCS rankings put them in the top 4, there is no logical reason to make them play in the Humanitarian Bowl, especially when the Big East (AQ) has NO ONE ranked in the top 25, and the ACC has one, and THAT team wouldn't qualify for an at-large bid right now if they weren't an AQ champion (VT is #20, and you have to be in the top 14 to qualify for an at-large).
