I know Sunday was awful, but then I watched some game from the Lick era.....

Do you label a play in game loss as a successful season?

Who said anything about a successful season? The point being made here is that there are 68 teams that qualify for the NCAA tournament. Not 67, not 64, but 68. And Iowa qualified last year.

Yes, I was disappointed that we only made the field of the first four games, but that doesn't negate the fact that we qualified for the NCAA tournament.

Glad you feel better. When the next generation of Hawk fans grow up, will they be saying "well it's better than Lickliter." I cannot believe the level of competitiveness in this fan base. You are probably happy if your kids get through the 11th grade and drop out; "at least they got to the 11th grade, I only made it through 10th"

But you are saying the season is already over and Fran should be fired. Using your example, you are doing the equivalent of telling the kids to drop out in the 11th grade, why even try to make it through to complete 12th grade.

Look, no one isn't happy with the jNW loss. But we have almost 25% of the season left. This is basketball where 1 bad loss isn't necessarily indicative of the quality of your team. I'm telling you that this team is NCAA bound.

I just don't understand basing your opinion of how a coach is preforming on where a selection committee decides to put you. The last 2 years, Fran has put us in a position where a committee can leave us out of the tourney, put us in a play in game, or put us in the field of 64. What decision the committee makes doesn't change the job Fran did.

I am not saying he should be fired. Barta should be fired.

What I am saying is many people are fed up with the lack of competitive results in the athletic program. Facts support it, well documented by Jon Miller before. Iowa is at the bottom of the B10 in championships, but not of course in revenue.

I am saying many people, who all grew up loving Iowa sports under Ralph Miller, Lute Olsen, Tom Davis, Hayden Fry, and a few years under Ferentz, are growing tired of the "throwback in your face" attitude of Ferentz and now McCaffery, when questioned about results or anything about the program. Some fans want to win, and be proud of Iowa athletics. I do not feel that way anymore, and when coaches make $2 to $4 million a year, you better take responsibility if you take that check to the bank. Don't "blame" the fans because you don't get results.

57, I agree with a lot of what you said. But I also think there is a difference between kfootball and FM and how they handles the media and fans. If you ask kfootball about one of his philosophies, you get coach speak or a "why are you asking me that?" With FM he will openly discuss strategy and philosophy with you. What he did re: Woody (I assume is what you're referring to) I think was because he felt it was a round about way of re-accusing Woody and he got p.o.'d. I can live with that.

Oh it wasn't spin. I understand completely that in the eyes of Fran (who received a big bonus) and the NCAA and CBS (who just wants more games for more money) that Iowa made the tournament. The record books will say the same. I just reject it in my mind. And any real basketball purest would do the same.

As Jon Miller said in his article last year "It sure didn't feel like Iowa made the tournament."

It felt somewhat similar to saying Iowa was in a Bowl Game last year. Yes they were. was it a successful season? No way!

The bar of expectations can't go higher than Fran because of Lick and Alford ? - In the meantime our top 20 instate rivals have figured it out and have coaches that have high caleber expectations and respect and have taught their players to walk on the court with balls and finish games like men with confidence. We are wasting our time with Fran and he needs to go after this season. Send him back to the 1AA East coast conference he came from. This is a business and the AD needs to take off his Kirk blinders as well and maybe make a 2 for 1 deal with another school. So sick of the loyalty to mediocre middle of the conference expectations.
