I feel the most empathy for Petras after failed 3rd and longs

And he has to wait to get official word from the sideline before jogging off, as if there’s any chance they’re going for it. It’s comical.

But, he’s a classy guy and instead of jogging off in disgust he stays and waits every time.

He’s not a good QB but as a person he’s one of my favorites.

He sold me on that at IL. It is when I if in control would have sold KF.

I've been on this train for awhile now.
He, alone, shouldered almost all of the heat for a long while. He doesn't have a PR team to craft his message through multiple fronts. He can't say the whole offense is underperforming unless he takes all the fault/blame and says "it starts with me". Which he has done.

I dunno what kind of teammate he is in the lockerroom, but outside the locker room...he is everything we want in a Hawk.

He's also the qb of a Big Ten West champion. Maybe a 2 time champion.

With probably the worst performing offenses in recent history. It's so comprehensively bad, I'm not even sure we know how bad he is.or relatively good he could be.

I will cheer for him. Always. Well, aside from the occasional jeer. I'm sure I jeered Brad Banks once or twice

I think Petras was just sacked again.

Wisconsin's defense always gives us big problems. Yesterday, the blocking was as bad as I've seen. They did have some moments, like the two short TD drives that we put together. Both times we completed passes and provided the necessary time for Petras. And KJs touchdown was blocked very well.
Its just that the bad plays are really bad, and Petras has no chance on most of those.

There was a sideline shot of BF when a first and 10 run up the middle was stopped short of the line of scrimmage- he kind of had his hands out and the look on his face was like, "can't believe that didnt work". It wasn't a complimentary look to be sure. Point is....the runs up the middle never did work and why BF thought it would is beyond me. Then there was the series in the area of the W 40 yd line where we miraculously did get 4 yds on 1st and 10 and then 2 straight pass plays and a punt that went into the end zone leading to a net of 20-25 yds......again, with the way our defense was playing, if that wasn't 4 down territory, not sure what is at this point, and to have 3 plays to gain 6 yds.....just unbelievable play calling IMO

Hand on a Bible....I remember the exact moment and thinking almost the same thing. At the time, my perception was it was more like he was thinking someone didn't do something right. Like a linemen didn't pull or something. Like it was the players' fault.

When the reality that's clear to the rest of us is that it still wouldn't have worked even if they had executed perfectly.

I didn't get to see the second half, but watching the 1st half, I am not sure what else Petras could have done. That ball he delivered to LaPorta when he actually had some time was exquisite...if LaPorta had just caught it with his hands, he probably scores. As ridiculous as the pressure was, Petras never seemed to get frazzled. Between the OL's best imitation of a seive, and an unimaginative gameplan, he just never had a chance. Right now, he is playing as well as he ever has in his career.

Every time Petras gets sacked, I am internally yelling MOVE! RUN! Don't just stand there! Do something! Iowa desperately needs a QB that can run, at least can scramble. What more can Petras do? MOVE!

With his running “ability” I’d rather he protect the ball and take the hit than take off and get stripped.

While there is a small sample size of this, when Petras has time and delivers the ball in rhthym, he throws an NFL ball. Tight spiral, zip, and usually pretty accurate. That pass that Laporta dropped near the goal line was a rope. He does not have good instincts on when to scramble and run, which is a problem with the sieve in front of him.

He is the worst possible match for the worst OL at Iowa since 99. A statue who cannot scramble and needs time to deliver the ball.

With this offensive line, Brad Banks would have been on his back a lot more..............it is just swiss cheese up front. Thats on the coaching.

That play where Plumb tried to cut block the DE was hysterically bad. I think the DE was laughing as he stepped around him and crunched Petras.

Great post. Yea, I don't put this on him. He's working with what he has or the hand he's dealt. He's done it in such a classy way. Pretty impressive for a young man. He's going to do well in life and some company is going to be very fortunate to have him on their team.

In hindsight that is easy to say, but when live those players were literally on top of him in a matter of 1-2 seconds. Seriously, not much he could do on most of those sacks, IMO. Those LB's were right there.

Exactly. I don't think anybody thinks he had super star potential or anything but there's literally no way of finding it out. Maybe he really is a bad bad QB. That's what has been shown and kinda where I lean but it's a totally unfair thing to try and judge him on when most of the time when he's being asked to throw it's 2nd and 12 or 3rd and 9 with less then 2 seconds to set his feet and throw. Tom Brady couldn't be successful with what we have going how could anyone else be expected to?
