I can literally feel the life being sucked out of the fanbase

I don't see apathy either. But I don't think this is what Fran had in mind with the let's get mad campaign.

I am not looking forward to the meltdown that will follow the hawks ******* away a game to Neby or PSU.

Maybe on the football board. I am happy with the basketball team. I wish we would have won a few of those games but we have made good progress since Lick.

You "figuratively" feel it, not literally.
People are'nt apathetic, they are heartbroken and frustrated. I'm a little heartbroken, by not that frustrated because I expected this. The 20+ win seasons will come, but not this year.

Apathy is once again creeping in.

No, it's not. Not by a long shot. It was a relatively short four years ago that a tough loss would have brought a shrug of the shoulders and a dismissive "Meh, don't care. When does football start?"

The pain, the angst and even -- yes, to a degree -- the negativity, are good signs, IMHO. There is a passion again for Iowa basketball, a burning desire for the team and the staff to do better. If next year's recruiting class was a bust, perhaps you'd have a point. But Fran has done several good things since arriving, including fending off Roy Boy to keep Gesell and Woodbury at home, landing Aaron and Sapp, bringing back Uthoff and keeping Jok in state, a player who supposedly had zero interest in staying in Iowa.

It hurts when Iowa loses. I'm as frustrated as anyone. But I still think the program's direction is good, and I would expect next year to be even better if Fran can keep everyone in house and Jok arrives as plans.

Its funny how some think Kirk gets the rest of his life to turn that program around, yet the basketball team is lost cause and the season isnt over.

Well said

Life got sucked out of the basketball program when Iowa used to pass the ball around for 30 seconds and then either turn the ball over or shoot a prayer. Fran is pumping air back into this program, it gets frustrating to watch at times but most of us see the progress they are making.

Frustrated but not giving up. Not justifying, but Crean in year 3 was worse than what we are experiencing Frans 3rd year.

Frustration is probably more accurate. Iowa has had 3 games they let slip away. Iowa was in position in every single game to slam the door and they didnt get it done. You get 2 of those and Iowa is an NCAA tournament team. A missed rebound, bad foul, horrible turnover, etc......down the stretch trying to close games out has done them in. It takes some grit and toughness to close the deal in the Big 10 and Iowa really lacks in that area right now.

No worries here... I have seen this before. It's painful to endure and makes me crazy but the favorable schedule is only 1 game away...after the road game at WI. The young guys are learning what has to happen at the end of a game...have to put teams away, have to make FTs, can't throw the ball away, etc. We will get our share of these next year...maybe some yet this year.

The fact that we've been so competitive with how poor we've shot the ball and without any stellar individual performances makes me extremely excited for next year. Last year a lot of our wins came when Gatens would go off, that type of performance is not easy to replace. This year we've been staying in games due to a huge improvement in defense and rebounding, something that can easily carry over into next year.

I think there's also reason to expect considerably offensive improvement with the addition of Jok and Uthoff plus Gesell's progression as a shooter. I was looking into Gesell's comparable players on KenPom and there's a precedent for similar players making a significant improvement in their 3 point shooting in their sophomore season.

Iowa needs some luck on their side as well as some better decision making towards the end of games. I would also like to see stronger starts. Iowa looked tired and lost at the start of the game yesterday.
