I believe that JVB is the worst QB in the B1G.

The guy doesn't have the mental aptitude to be a B1G QB.

He might be smart enough to be a physical therapist, but when it comes to football IQ, he doesn't qualify.

In the offense Iowa is choosing to run I'd take him over anyone. If Iowa ran the spread I wouldn't take him

In the MSU-BSU game, Andrew Maxwell looked in his first career start against a top 25 team like Vandenberg did yesterday in his second start in the new system, and seventeenth career start in total.

Fact is, Iowa looks at most positions like Vandenberg does at QB: tense and panicked. I'd love to see a little more swagger. For instance, Morris [great game overall by him yesterday, no other way to put it, but] missed a tackle on a swing pass late in the first half. He had the angle on the back, and in most other games I watch, the LB there flies to the back and tries to plant him, usually resulting in a TFL or at least enough of a slow-down to hold the guy until reinforcements arrive. Morris, however, slowed down, started tip-toeing, and got juked out of his shorts for 7 RAC yards and a first down. He did everything right on the play and had enough speed to get to the play, but then he got tentative and let the back dictate the play.

The lack of confidence and tenacity on our roster is endemic.

How did JVB throw for 3000+ yds last season??

McNutt? Rieff?

The problem with this offense is no Marcus Coker or a back like him (not Bullock's fault)... this offense was pound Coker to set up play action.

1st and goal at the 3 - with Coker Iowa wins - period.

Disagree, This offensive line is the softest we have had in years and I can tell you that from people that have played against it.

If ISU doesn't have all the turnovers we don't have a chance to win. To me the game came down to Iowa 1st and goal at the 3 against a team with a very average defensive line and we can't make positive yards.

I understand that without a few more dropped balls we can still win the game but that series by the O-Line was very telling.

JVB is part of the problem this year. But I think the bigger problem is who he had to throw to. Once again, Iowa finds itself behind the eight ball at receiver. Easily the worst recruited position of the Ferentz era. And I'd have two tights with CJF all over the field every snap.

Then KF needs to give Bilichek a call or pick Brian's brain because that is all NE runs are 2 TE sets.

You serious, Clark?

Iowa is still going to run mostly pro style sets. So I would prefer to have a pro style quarterback given that offense. For me, this eliminates Robinson, Gray, Miller, Scheelhaase or most of them. Looking around the league, there isn't another pro style quarterback I would choose over Vandenberg.

If Iowa were employing an offense other than a pro-style offense that can take advantage of a quarterback's running abilities, JVB would not be my choice.

If your kid was a 4 star talent, would you honestly send him to Iowa? I love the Hawks, but no way would I do that to him. If he was say a 3 star and smart and he had offers at say Duke, Stanford or Northwestern, I'd send him there for the education and networking opportunities. If he was dumb and a four star I'd send him to a program with a better pedigree in terms of throwing the ball. He'd have to be a dumb 2 or 3 star with only offers from MAC and SunBelt schools before I'd honestly send him to Iowa with Ferentz at the helm. And that is coming from a major Iowa homer. That's a big problem.

Assuming you mean 4 star receiver, the answer is no. I'd have him look around. I wrote as much related to the two big in state WR talents Iowa has lost in recent years to Michigan.

Considering that he is a Senior. Sure, he might be a bit beyond some of the younger guys, but they have time on their side.

Can you honestly say that you wouldn't prefer any other QB in the league to JVB?

He has no awareness of the game around him.

The 3rd and long where he threw it short to a WR that was extremely well covered is a prime example.

You are at midfield. Throw the ball into the endzone. If it gets picked, its a punt. You need to know that.

The first interception. That was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen in a football game...

until...

the second interception.

This team is going nowhere fast, and if Jake Ruddock isn't at least as good as JVB is right now, than we are in real trouble for the next few years as well.

Got to love Monday morning QB's who more than likely don't know a damn thing about the position.

Absolutely this and I've been saying it's a bad thing when our best receivers are our TE's. But, we won't see this. Why? Because it makes too much sense.

That JVB kool-aid must taste good...
