I am sorry if this sounds mean spirited....

Typical response and comments about the need to be 13-0 each and every year. The OP isnt that sorry. I love all the kids that commit and want to be Hawkeyes. I agree, Cap't Kirk isn't changing and neither is our records, for the .ost part. We do pull out a 10 win season, a 9 win season, but be grateful we have a team to cheer for and a team that goes out and gives 110% each game. I get just as upset as everyone else at times, but until we find a head coach and staff that's progressive,

“ expect the 7-5, 8-4 seasons we all love.” NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Trying to figure out if I am reading sarcasm here??? That would 7-6 and 8-5 after we get tromped in the bowl game.:(

110%? Have you watched the last 5 bowl games?

Kirk's winning % .5965, 7.15 wins on a 12 game schedule. We are essentially a 7-5 program under him.

KF is an 8 Win a year coach. He has won 8 games a year over the last 10 years, he has won over 8 games a year over the last 16 years. The only time he falls below 8 win per year is when the 1 win and 3 win seasons are counted and those are on Hayden for leaving Ferentz a shitting ass team.

Please stop this. A coach that has won 7 or more games in 13 out of 18 seasons and has only had 3 losing seasons in the same amount of time is not a 7-5 coach. Hell, he's done better than that tag in 3 out of the last 4. And save your "he feasted on cupcakes" in the OOC because that's what every team does. You can only judge the program by their peers, which is that Iowa has the 4th highest win percentage in the B1G since 2001. It took him a couple of years to climb the program out of the mess Fry left by staying too long.

The point that many Ferentz defenders don't consider is we only have a shot at the West when our schedule is weak. If we were winning 9 games a year with this year's schedule then nobody could complain. Some people get so used to mediocrity that they start saying things like "rankings don't matter" or "who cares about bowl games". It's all bull, we are a 7-5 program that is not feared or taken seriously across the nation. In the eyes of most people outside of little Iowa, we are no different than Minnesota or Purdue (not true but that's what people believe). We won't be ranked most years at all, and we will always lose games that we should win. We need something like "the wave" to get media attention. The sooner the whole Ferentz clan is gone the better.

But if Iowa is EVER going to reach the next level after Ferments is gone 20 years from now, they have got to quit relying on these feel good stories taking up VALUABLE roster spots....this has become a crutch under Ferments and it needs to be discussed by the Iowa Sports Media. Will it? Hell no....nobody wants to be the reporter to say that Johnny Tryhard who has been a Hawk fan his whole life and parents both went to the school doesn't deserve a shot at a 7-5 season and making a Who Cares Bowl. This is EXACTLY why Ferments needs to be gone today....he does NOT give one shit about doing anything more than competing for the Big 10 West.....and even that is debatable given these two stories and several more each and every year going back as far as I can recollect.

And George Kittle was one of those kids. Should have passed on him huh. And Josey Jewell couldn't even get a full ride offer from UNI. Should have passed on him too huh?

in 15 Iowa beat 2 top 25 teams, won in Madison, Evanston and Lincoln. That wasn't a weak schedule year. Ask the NFL coaches and brass if Iowa is considered like all those other programs. Iowa isn't elite EVERY season, that's what this comes down to for the 7-5 guys... and the argument that defenders make is ... show me who is besides a handful of programs

Honest question: is it the system we run or the type of players we recruit that constantly leave us looking slower and less athletic than equal competition?

Outside of Wadley and ISM this years team lacks this speed and athleticism. This isn't something new. If we go back through the last 10-15 years speed has been a consistent issue.

Just looking for some clarification on why this is. I won't claim to be an expert, but this appears to be an issue to me and others I've spoken with.

They didn't look slow compared to MSU. I haven't seen a team they've played this year that looks incredibly faster and more athletic then Iowa. But we haven't played TOSU yet either.

I'm sure you're talking about Florida, Stanford and Tennessee - which, it's incredibly easy to see why that is.

Sometimes perception is not reality. A couple of years ago I remember some commenting on this board about a guy named McCarron ... basically a "slow walk-on receiver" from Dubuque. Well, he ends up running a 4.36 40 at the NFL combine. He's now collecting a check every week from the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.
