14 starters back. An all-Big Ten QB and an All-American corner coming back. Two of our three starting linebackers. Two excellent defensive linemen coming back. Two proven running backs, and an OL rated number 1 in the country. All the momentum in the world coming off of a Big Ten West Division championship. What does our coaching staff do? Here is what they did:
1. While other teams were getting better, we come in with a "pat" hand. No new schemes and no development of new wide receivers.
2. Unlike Michigan, no plan or scheme to play our best player (King) on offense.
3. No changes to the offense. None.
4. No imaginative blitz packages. No aggression on defense. None. If you want to see imaginative blitzes, watch Michigan. Harbaugh is doing it with Hoke's players from 2 years ago.
Bottom line, I've completely lost interest in this team this year. It's not the players, it's the coaching staff. I give our coaching staff a grade of D this year. In all honesty, the worst coaching job of the Ferentz era. Greg Davis is a lazy, old coach who needs to go. His offense plays with no confidence because they don't believe in the coach or the schemes.
It is depressing and disappointing. I apologize in advance for being so negative, but the facts are the facts. In many ways, this is the most disappointing Iowa team I can ever remember, going back 53 seasons of Iowa football that I have witnessed.
My heart breaks for Beathard, King and the rest of the seniors. They deserved more from their staff this year.
I see a 6 and 6 season and a mediocre bowl game in our future this year. Ferentz received all of the praise last year (and deservedly so), so now he deserves all of the blame. He should be ashamed of the job he did this year as head coach. Where is the sense of urgency??? I don't get it, I really don't.
