I am liking the GD hire more and more

...1st off....KOK is known in his industry as a developer of QB's. Does anybody HONESTLY think that Joe Philbin would hire KOK as his QB coach if his pedigree weren't excellent?

He didn't. Game over. Your message board handle makes this all the more ironic.

i dont want to go through everything from each qb but kok was better at planning with their strengths than we give him credit for. he struggled with in game adjustments and some say development. but really he developed ricky into a drafted qb which we havent had in awhile and banks wasnt a pro type qb, nor was tate or chandler but we won with them by his planning.

This I tend to agree with, but I differentiate adapting to a QB from developing a QB. Those are two different things in my mind.

Developing is taking a kid in as a FR and developing through their SR season (JR is they go pro, which is a mistake in and of itself, which KOk didn't do). He really only had two stabs at this: 1) Christensen, who never developed and 2) Stanzi, who was good enough to get drafted.

KOK was at best marginal at developing QB talent. He didn't have an extensive history developing QB's before Iowa and it showed.

That said, he was pretty good at adapting to QB's skills. I've credited him with this before. The Iowa offense lends itself to this well, at least under the old regime. It's a vanilla core offense, so it's adaptable.

Moving forward will be good. Iowa needed change and this will be a good opportunity for the staff as a whole. My concern probably shifts more to the D than the O going forward. I know Phil's been around, but we'll see how different it is without Norm as a base.

GD has proven he is good at his job. Is he better then KOK? I hope so when it comes to planning and adjusting in game.
I really liked the superbowl comment. That is what it takes. Everyday is the superbowl, it does not matter if your lifting, jogging, playing catch, or taking a test you have to give 100%. I did not follow TX ball so I had no idea what kind of coaching style GD had. I think (and hope) he has one where his attitude is contagious.
You need to know the game and you need to be able to teach the game, but there is much more to being a coach then just that. It is that intangible or style of coaching I was interested to hear about. After all I already knew he could coach a pretty good O.

I look at it this way: we are trading a guy who had one excellent offense in 13 years for a guy who had one poor offense at Texas in 13 years. I'll grant KOK did a fine job in 2004 with no rb's, but this has to be an improvement overall.
