I am liking the GD hire more and more

I have always liked this hire, but hearing our QB talk about him in this way is even more exciting...

I'll be excited when I can see some tangible evidence that our QB's are being better developed.

I like it too. Sometimes new blood and a fresh perspective is all that's needed. This seems to be the case for both parties and let's hope the excitment carries over to w's.

I like reading fluffy articles like that too, but I'll be even more excited if Davis can teach our QB how to perform well and contribute during road games. That seems to be Vandenberg's shortcoming.

Vandenberg at home in 2011:
256.86 yards/game
61.35 completion %
17 TDs
3 INTs
6-1 record

Vandenberg on the road in 2011:
201.60 yards/game
56.86 completion %
6 TDs
3 INTs
1-4 record

Road 52.3%, 6.74ypa, 112.9 rating, 4:4 TD:INT

Change was needed.
We will see if GD was the right/best option. If anything it will make our offense a little less predictable for at least the next season.

Those QBs found ways to win more than one road game last year, did they not? Vandenberg threw 6TD passes in five road games last year. Say what you want but that's not good enough.

Using Robinson and Martinez as examples isn't the best idea. They aren't true quarterbacks, and run offenses nothing like ours. Cousins is a fair comparison.

Exactly. Nobody would compare Peyton Manning and Michael Vick either.

Thats kindve deceiving since you figure most of the time there are 2,3, maybe even 4 fluff non con games at home to help pad those stats.

Statistically QB's generally do worse on the road. That's pretty much a given. It's not the pure statistical performance that is the concern. It's the ability to prepare your QB to win on the road. The ability that Stanzi basically had coached out of him, rather than improved upon, his Senior year.

Or perhaps a 4 game sample size is just too little to get an accurate picture of what kind of road QB he was.

I don't see why the offensive system has any bearing on a player's home/road splits.

I didn't realize those QBs single-handedly won football games last year.

Vandeberg threw 6 TDs, while Cousins had 8 (with 8 picks), Denard had 7 (with 7 picks) and Martinez had 4 (with 4 picks). Vandeberg had a better TD/INT ratio than any of them.

I'm not saying Vandeberg shouldn't work on his execution and general makeup in road games. But this generalized belief amongst Iowa fans that Vandeberg is has a much bigger performance drop on the road than other QBs is 100% false.
