Hypothetical "What would you give up for...?"

Let;s have a good laugh.

What game would you give up as "sacrifice" to go 11-1?

Conservatively, what game would want to win if we were to go 1-11?

I'll start:

I guess, if we were to go 11-1, my "give-up" game would be Michigan. It's early, we could still win the West, and we could theoretically face them in the B1G CG.

If, God forbid, we were to go 1-11, I'd want the win to be over Wisconsin. They'd probably be the West champ, and it would be a nice laugh come the end of the season.

That's the best option. We lose a close one to them on their field, kick their ass in the B1G title game and still have a shot at the playoff...all be it a long shot.

I've given up thinking we will ever make the CFP without being 13-0, but I guess beating an undefeated Michigan in the B1G CG to go 12-1 might do it, as it did for M$U in 2015.

I think if we win the championship game with 1 loss, there's about a 50/50 shot of making the playoffs.

We go in at 11-1, ranked #7-9. Michigan is 12-0, ranked #2 or 3. We beat em and move up to 4th. Very do-able.

Problem is...if both teams end up 12-1 and 1-1 head to head... Michigan would likely get the nod having beaten tOSU. Pollsters would put them 1 ahead of us wherever it played out. Calls for an 8 team playoff would blowup on this site.

We'd have to destroy them in the B1G title game. The only answer: win in Ann Arbor.

I don't ever see a scenario where the loser of a conference championship gets in over the winner when they have the same record.

Theres a lot of possibilities, what ifs and maybes but I think the best way to make the playoffs with one loss would be losing to Iowa State.( I know, I know, I don't like it either). But if Iowa State lives up to preseaon rankings and finishes in the top 25, then an early season loss on the road to the clowns would be forgiveable in the eyes of the selection committee. That leaves us with road wins at Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Northwestern, and a home win over Penn State. Then beat a highly ranked Ohio State in the Big Ten championship games I think we would be in. We'd have enough quality wins to trump our one loss.

The old BCS certainly didn't go that way, though. Nebby & Oklahoma both got in after losing in Big XII CG, I believe.

Certainly can't argue against that. You're the early leader!

Shades of 2002

Even undefeated, there’s zero chance a Big Ten champ not named Michigan, OSU, or Wisconsin gets into the playoff. None.

One loss Michigan St got in in 2015.
Completely and totally wrong. At least it has never happened thus far...

(Hoping you see the hilarity in this post)
Hyperbole gets everyone stirred up.

I’d possibly give in to Mich State, but the conditions would have to be perfect.

Wether they should or not, if the B1G winner isn’t OSU, UM, UW, or (maybe just maybe) MSU, the committee will ALWAYS double up the SEC, and take the ACC, then take either the PAC-12 or BIG-12 depending on which one is better.

Sorry, but a one-loss Oklahoma, Texas, or Washington is getting in over undefeated Iowa. The committee is going to go with TV ratings and ad revenue above all else. Which is why they need to throw it to the curb and go 8 teams.

The sacrifice loss could be to the highest ranked team (end of season) that iOwa plays.....or the other safest way is to lose in September and then play so well the rest of the year that people simply dismiss that loss as an anomaly - like ver loss that an SEC power ever has

Uh...TV ratings would WAY favor Iowa over those three.

One loss would be Miami of OH cuz idk any of their fans and if Iowa ripped off 11 straight against that schedule I’d be okay with it.

1-11: Wisconsin cuz screw those derka-derka we only like our teams when they win hillbillies.

I also live in Wisconsin and can’t stand their fanbase. Worst in the big ten and I lived with an by tons of OSU fans.

The only way a Big 10 team doesn't make the playoffs undefeated is if there are four other undefeated teams at the end of the year. I could maybe get behind a 1 loss Alabama getting in as a 2nd SEC team.
