it will never happen again. the mediocrity of the iowa fb program has been too well documented over the last 8 years. the only college coaches that go to the NFL are successful ones, like chip kelly, nick saban, steve spurrier, Captain Kurt(circa 2002). Plus, whats Kurt going to do, be a coordinator somewhere? yeah right, KF makes NFL head coaching salary at Iowa. What is he going to coordinate, offense? maybe if it were 1920. KF will only get back to the NFL if he turns things around at iowa, and has another 2002 type season. otherwise we are stuck with him until we can buy out his contract or his contract expires in 2020. I just hope whoever the AD is at that time, goes "all-in" and pays 5-6 mill(adjust for inflation) and lures a chip kelly type to iowa that isnt afraid to innovate.

..what does Barta do?
Does he try talking Ferentz into staying at Iowa (and for arguments sake let's say he doesn't offer to extend his contract or add more money) ?
Does he let Kirk do what he must do, thinking this might be the easiest way out of the current contract mess?

Greg Shiano was just hired by the Bucs as their Head Coach, smart guy. What do you think was more impressive to the NFL, the fact that he was one season removed from going 4-8, or that he went a career 28-48 in the scary Big East?

Greg Schiano took a morbid Rutgers program and turned them into a winner. He is 46 years old with great energy, and brings a new look to the NFL. Do any of these characteristics apply to KF?........NO!
Spot-on. I suspect a lot of people on this board don't know a thing about Rutgers or the history of Rutgers football. Schiano was responsible for a resurgence of Scarlet Knights' football and putting fannies in an expanded stadium.
LOL!!!!
Well, they do seem to make a lot of bad hires in the big boy league.Peter King, one of the top NFL insiders, said as recent as two weeks ago that Ferentz is one of the top 5 current college coaches whose name is most mentioned in NFL GM circles even today. King said that despite this past season at Iowa that Ferentz is highly regarded still by NFL GMs.

I have an inside source telling me where there's fire, there's smoke...Don't dismiss the Kurt to Buffalo rumors that have been out there.
Zero chance! It could never be sold to the fanbase. The NFL is constantly changing and KF has been gone from the league for quite some time. Do you actually think there is an NFL franchise that will give KF $5M/yr for 5 yrs to coach? If you believe that, I have a oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you. KF is in IC until 2020, or until the buyout is palatable.Peter King, one of the top NFL insiders, said as recent as two weeks ago that Ferentz is one of the top 5 current college coaches whose name is most mentioned in NFL GM circles even today.
