Hypocrisy, irony, supidity.....not quite sure what it is.

It is clear (following the "pep rally" video and the resignation statement) that Paterno doesn't get the point that a football game is so unimportant right now in light of the situation but it is also clear that the Penn State fans are equally stupid.

The fans backing Paterno will be cheering for him while wearing blue shirts to raise awareness for child abuse.

'Blue Out' Saturday at PSU to Support Child Abuse Victims | NBC Philadelphia

The hypocrisy is mindboggling......

Another article about it....at least the bottom of this story gets it a little bit.

Penn State to Have "Blue Out" to Support Child Abuse Victims | LostLettermen.com

From the linked story:

From the Penn State football Facebook page: “In light of the numerous counts of sexual abuse recently charged against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, wear blue to the Nebraska game to support the victims of child abuse worldwide.

“Penn State has a strong tradition of integrity and solidarity to uphold– let’s make national news not only for the scandal, but for our collective actions to show support for the victims, and be proud again to say WE ARE PENN STATE!”

We understand that the school is trying to put out what has turned into a national firestorm, but we don’t think a bunch of fans wearing the same color while watching a football game will make the victims feel any better.

I would think it would probaly hurt the victims more because now that they were older they probably wish they would know well enough to make Sandusky have a case of blue balls.

I think they should boycott the game until everyone involved is gone. Paterno should be ousted or quit immediately, imo.

and what would make them feel better?

Nothing will, but doing something like this sure as hell might make them feel worse or god forbid deter other people from coming forward.

If the whole community that you live in is screaming support for a man that may have covered up or ignored these crimes would that make you want to raise your hand and say you were a victim?

the WHOLE community was at joepa's and supports him? i don't believe that for a second.

i don't believe the story said anything about wearing blue to support joe paterno. it said they're wearing blue to support the victims. you do realize the fans didnt' have anything to do with what happened to the victims, right? nor did the players that will be on the field saturday. the players still need support, even more now than last week.

Its all so messed up that no one should be doing anything except shunning this program. Fans, players, the rest of the nation. It sucks, but anyone thats been part of any kind of group knows that the actions of a few can ruin it for everyone else innocent or not. Sorry, it happened. Wrong place wrong time, sorry, deal with it.

So the school wants to get students to wear shirts to support the victims... but can't seem to get rid of the coaches & administrators who let their be victims in the first place.

Cliche's right: if they truly want to support the victims, then the fans shouldn't show up to the football game.

Agree 1000 percent. if this happened to iowa and Ferentz was still allowed to coach, I would boycott.

If the whole mess of them were gone, then I could see this happening and supporting it. With Paterno on the sidelines, it's just a distraction from what they are trying to accomplish and support. It's so hypocritical.

You can't move on until he's gone and that goes for all the others in this situation. They have to be gone.

Tickets are being solder faster at higher rates. Darren Rovell (a must-follow on Twitter btw) had two tweets this afternoon:

From @darrenrovell

"Fans/brokers are listing this week's Penn State tickets at an avg of $286.96. Yesterday at 1pm ET it was $143.34 (via @TiqIQ)"

and

"Since 1pm, as tickets have continued to sell, the avg listed price of the PSU-Nebraska game is now $325.35 (via @TiqIQ)"

I know it's slightly off-topic, and money really is insignificant in all of this, but it's just crazy that the fans are so entrenched to support Paterno even with everything that comes up.

wow, such a cliche is right. today it's all about ribbons, t-shirts, car magnets, etc. I would like to ask these kids if this is what they want. Wouldn't it make more sense for all the fans to stand outside the stadium during the game with the message that there are more important things than football..... and to say that as fans we dont support coaches who do this....?????

What a bunch of hypocrites. Unbelievable. Yeah, let's wear blue shirts to support victims, and then let's head to JoePa's house for another pep rally for a guy that harbors child molesters. Ridiculous. Not that the game matters AT ALL, but I still hope Nebraska crushes them. And no way should JoePa be on that field on Saturday.

Or maybe wear a color other than that of the school that was intimately involved in their victimization.

Seriously, wearing Blue is about as sick as sick as you can get.

That is about showing support for the school, not support for child abuse victims.

stand outside the ******* stadium so the thing is empty to show the world we care more about the victims than a ******* game and shady coaches...

THAT....would make a statement (oh but then they'd miss the game, which is actually more important to the hypicrates)

The accused should be shot in front of fans before game and then game on. All is forgiven then in my book. Dirty old bastard.
