Hyde To Safety?

I have heard this off-season already people questioning whether Hyde will get switched to safety and whether shaun prater would get switched to safety. Anyone thinking Prater is moving to safety let me say the following- NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN AT IOWA. I think he'll get switched to safety in the pros, but he is an all big ten corner, he will not be switching to safety this year.

As far as Hyde goes, I would be absolutely shocked if he goes to safety. We have guys who have shown in limited snaps that they can play the safety position, Yes I said limited snaps, but at least there is some evidence (Miller, Donatell, Bernstine). We have nobody who has proven they can be legitimate at corner behind Prater and Hyde, in fact all Lowe and Castillo ever showed was that they shouldn't be starters or nickel corners. Keep the proven at the proven.

In the last 30 years Iowa has had 3 corners drafted and Spievey has already been moved to safety so it's not like Iowa has a history of great cover corners.

Give me your 4 best guys and find a place for them. I got a feeling Bernstine will be one of th 4.

The reason we are talking about Hyde and safety is because Kirk acknowledged he would get a look there this spring.

I actually kindof like the idea behind this. First of all, it gives us more speed at the safety position. 2. Hyde has a ball-hawk mentality in him. 3. We all saw what happens when he gets the ball in his hands and makes some room. I really want Bernstine to get a shot at corner, where I think he belongs.

I think Lowery is the one who is throwing a wrench in this whole thing. I just have a good feeling about him. I know that he hasn't proved anything, but putting an experienced corner opposite of him and putting Hyde in the position to be a ball hawk will make this D better I think.

I also think the corner is probably Lowery instead of Bernstine. I like the idea of moving your scorer around a bit.

There was at least 1 photo from spring practice that leads me to believe that Hyde's look has already begun.

Although it's insanely early, could we be tracking to see something like this?

CB: Prater, Castillo
CB: Lowery, Lowe
FS: Hyde, Miller
SS: Bernstine, Donatell

Corners to safety
Safties to LB(Hitchens & Kirksey)

Not hard to figure out what Iowa is doing here.
And I think it is a good thing.

+1 to that lineup.

Yes on JB to ss or even fs if Hyde stays at cb. Speed and strength of JB seems a natural to me and always has. Never understood the cb for JB.

Sounds like we got some depth in the defensive backfield and that my friends is a good thing. Hyde might get some snaps at safety in spring practice and fall practice for that matter but still play corner, but if need be he can play safety due to injury. Not a bad idea at all and nothing to cry or whine about either.
