I think Hesse was responsible for contain in the Penn State game and McSorley got outside for the score.
Perhaps AJE would have contained him, or chased him down. Our defense, in general, looks more athletic than it has in a long time and we have a nice mix of players to carry out all the assignments.
Hesse definitely didn't have contain, but I am sure he would have liked to play it better:
Hawks were in a heavy alignment (but out of normal personnel) for 3rd and 2. Looks like DL was pinching, Hesse was responsible for B (which he plugged), but he got washed down more than you would like to see. This play was mostly a LB fail. Colbert (who has contain) came too far upfield, opening a huge alley. Hockaday, who was unblocked and has to be the one to make the play, went in the wrong direction. There was a pulling G right in front of him that should have led him to the play, and I don't think he had any man-coverage responsibilities.
Moss, the CB to that side, was in man coverage, got run off, and then got sealed. That certainly could have been played better on his end, but he did have coverage responsibilities first and foremost.
Like most defensive breakdowns, there was plenty of blame to go around.
