Howe: Hawkeyes Work In Progress But Resiliency Already Present

As Rob Howe writes, the resiliency Iowa has shown the last two weeks is a sign these Hawkeyes are on the right track:

I don't think anyone saw the secondary playing that poorly. I don't think many saw Stanley throwing 5 TD, either.

Park had way too much time to throw as well. The secondary was not good but it needed more help from the D-Line and linebackers.

I saw some of those pass coverages and wondered if Iowa secondary coaches were teach

Well, now there's this new-fangled type of football scheme teams are using called the spread. When the team passes well out of the spread, Iowa's defense doesn't have a chance. When Iowa defense doesn't tackle well, Iowa's defense never has a chance.

The hurry up offense makes it difficult as well, especially on a warm day. However, Iowa needs to be better in pressuring the quarterback regardless of the scheme.

I will take the victory........ not going to lie though...I was a little disappointed in the line play on both sides of the ball.

I thought the O-Line was pretty good, especially considering Ike's injury. One sack and 164 on the ground. Been a lot of moving pieces the first two weeks. Tough to gain continuity.

it is sufficient to simply say resilience. I don't think resiliency is a word

Rely / reliance

Comply / Compliance

Resiliency definitely is a word. Not as commonly used as resilience but a word, none the less. I'm leaving it. ;)

All week long we heard that ISU had an advantage with their receivers over the Iowa secondary. As the game played out it was obviously true. I thought you would get the same thing with the Iowa line play. When that dominance didn't occur I felt disappointed.

Fair point. I'm giving the O-Line some understanding based on injuries. It was Daniels' first game yesterday. Boettger got hurt. They used two of three different groups yesterday and have a first-year starter at LT. I think things will get better.

In week 1 we turned the ball over... a lot. In week 2, too many penalties and secondary getting burned.

Imagine how good we will do once we stop shooting ourselves in the foot. Future is bright.

I agree, I think the OL did fine. But very disappointed the DL giving Park all day back there.

This team has a chance. Long way to go but I like the demeanor.
