Howe: Give Me LeShun Daniels Ahead of Joe Mixon All Day

When you come at me with snark telling me to leave it to the pro scouts and saying I'm too close to the situation, expect blowback. You don't get respect when you can't show it.

I have no problem if someone disagrees with my opinion. I don't appreciate the snark and it probably comes from you thinking your opinion is correct. That's usually when people act that way.

There are have been plenty of RBs who were thought to be first-round talents who have flopped badly while others who flown under the radar coming into the draft that have excelled. If you follow it that closely, I'm sure you're aware of that.

As I wrote, total package, player and person, I'd riding with LD. You can have Mixon.

For what it is worth, I didn't get snark from what NikeHawk originally wrote. I think he was going out of his way to say you each had your own differing opinions, and that is fine. By "leave it to the scouts", I think he primarily meant, "let's wait and see how this works out." Just how I read it. I was a bit surprised by how your reacted to his post as well (just the last sentence).

Digital communication: tough to get a read sometimes. For what it is worth, I am in your camp opinion-wise, but I don't think NikeHawk meant any disrespect.

We see it differently.

This was the comment:

I'd say leave it to the scouts who are paid to do this kind of thing. If it wasn't for one incident you'd be saying you'd prefer a undrafted RB to an 1st round guy. Seems like you might be a little to close to this one.

Telling me to leave it to the scouts because I'm too close to the situation is accusatory, IMO. It's saying my opinion is diluted because I know LD.

Perhaps snarky isn't the right word but it certainly isn't something conducive to a constructive discussion.

It's the tone of these boards, though. It's often a pissing match instead of respectful discussion and exchanging of ideas and opinions.

Wow, that video really showed off his bad vision, inability to break tackles and lack of speed. Oh, wait...

Well of course a highlight tape isn't going to show the times he got easily tackled for a back his size. Wadley broke just as many (if not more) tackles and Daniels was supposedly our "bruiser". Daniels did have his moments of putting his size to good use (Michigan game), but there is a reason that the Tarzan;Jane comments were made throughout his career. Great character kid and a model teammate though.

Some team will get Mixon on the cheap and to them it will be worth the risk.

I just read my first response and the message was literally the same as the guy who commented right above me. I didn't mean it to read as snarky and I'm still not convinced it does. If anything I would have re-worded the last paragraph but I tried to sort out my line of thinking on the scouts thing in my last response.

I get why you get offended (journalistic integrity and all that) when people say you are too close to things but in all honesty people's opinions are shaped by their experience, and there's nothing wrong with that IMO. I'd certainly love to meet LD, he sounds like a great dude. I read and enjoy your content and certainly know your not just some blithering Kool-aid man. I just meant it as in this case your opinion may be a bit of a stretch, in my opinion of course.

Oh well, I'm over it. Back to the basketball board for me.

Fair enough. Sometimes get things get lost in transition in print. Maybe neither one of us can understand each other in this format or at least in this case. That's fine. Time to move on.

LeShun Daniels definitely has what it takes for the pay to play leagues. Will it be the NFL? Maybe. But more likely some other venue.

The Packers need a run stopper, a hybrid D back, and a running back. I can think of three guys that would fit right in.

I know the tone on this board isn't the greatest, but when you read comments with the previous conceived notion that the boards are snarky, you're probably going to interpret most posts as snarky. I've read enough of nikehawk's posts to know he meant no disrespect.

Wouldn't that be cool if King replaced Hyde... Hyde kinda reminded me of Merton Hanks. I think it's kinda the evolution of how defensive backs have gone in a way.

Honestly, I monitor the boards for misbehavior because it's my job. Unlike a lot of you, I don't know the tendencies of most of the posters on this board.

And, yes, I'm not a fan of the tone of these boards. Trying to wade through the nonsense to get to engaging conversation is too tiring. I have friends with knowledge of the program that won't drop info on here because off all the BS.

But it's your board. You guys do with it what you want.

Maybe he can play in the new spring league and show some stuff there. Heard Ricky Stanzi is going to be a starting qb in it. Nice move by Manzi imho. Tommy Maddox played a season in the XFL and he parlayed it into a contract with the Steelers.

FWIW most NFL teams now have 3 to 5 RB's. They are looking for a power guy, a speed guy and someone to catch out of the backfield. There are only 3 guys in the league right now that can do all 3. Mixon can't do all 3 either so the 1st round talk by scouts or experts is stupid. My opinion is Daniels is your prototypical one cut power back. There are 11 teams in the league that need a power back right now. I see him going in the 5th or 6th round to one of those teams and see him getting some carries year 1 or 2. RB has one of the lowest career longevity averages so NFL teams are adapting. They are favoring playing young RB's and using them up before the inevitable happens.

The tone of these boards is the tone of most all social media anymore. Ya gotta hunt through a lot of junk to find the reasonable. and there's always going to be that loud element stirring something up.

I still would love to meet a number of regular posters in person, i think it'd be awesome, or at least entertaining. And there is 3-4 that I would extremely curious to know if they are the same in "non anonymous" life.

I've been monitoring boards since 2003 when Jon and I teamed up for the first time. I admit, I've been worn down.

While there always have been "trolls", I think there used to be more inside information and a more respectful exchange of opinions on the message boards back in the day. As you said, social media has changed things.

We have something we're working on that hopefully will give people that want to talk about the Hawkeyes and share inside info a place to be. It's a month or two out, but I'm looking forward to it as is Jon.
