-----"The Hawkeyes could b**** and moan like "SOME OF THEIR FAIR WEATHER FANS."

-----"PESSIMISTS BELEIVE" the Hawkeyes are in the midst of a collapse resembling the one the program experienced two seasons ago when it lost seven of its last eight games."

-----"SOME PEOPLE" also will view it as a season where the first Big Ten title since 1970 slipped through the grasp."

Looks like someone learned from Pat Harty how to criticize using the 3rd person technique....thus absolving yourself from any University/Sponser backlash....VERY cowardly!!! Give us your own damn opinion and quit speaking through "fans"....it is a very transparent technique used by the Iowa sports media at large...you have been busted and warned. BTW, we have EVERY right to b**** and moan after waiting thirty (30) years for a team to show us just once it knows how to nut up and NOT collapse....that isn't asking too damn much ...is it???

"PESSIMISTS BELIEVE the Hawkeyes are in the midst of a collapse resembling the one the program experienced two seasons ago when it lost seven of its last eight games."

Did it really say this? You don't have to be a pessimist to see the striking similarities to the collapse two years ago and the collapse this season. Iowa has lost their last 4 and 5 of 6. I don't think you need to be a pessimist to realize we are imploding.

Collapses are nothing new. Dig a bit and look at 81-82 for example.

It's the sheeple who really believe(d) we belonged as a number one NCAA seed, conf champs etc who are struggling here.

Mindless, actually. Historically clueless.

We're destined to be a #5-6 NCAA if/when we make it as our zenith. Being somewhat nationally relevant is as far as we're ever going to ascend.

Davis was as good as it gets for Iowa. Past, present or future.

If you want more, move to NC and cheer on either Duke or NC. Kentucky's nice this time of year too.

Stanzi - Yes it did say that....did you read the article provided? I have seen zero columns criticizing Fran as of yet for this collapse...only seeing crap centered around the opinion that fans are way off base to be expecting much more than normal out of this team.

Walker - Whoever prematurely extended Barta's deal should be called out and too....I've seen nothing questioning the very premature timing of the extension.

It really is too bad we have so many crappy fans within our fan base. Yes it is super disappointing and even painful to end the season on a losing streak. I truly understand that but to honestly think the coaches and players do not feel the pain and heartache is ridiculous.

I left Carver last night sad for the players but with a good feeling that I witnessed one hell of a game in an amazingly energized arena. Indiana was just quicker, stronger and better. They made the extra plays, hit their shots and cashed in their opportunities. The guys could have easily folded up their tents 14 down but battled all the way back and actually took a small lead. Even with 27 seconds down 5 and Yogi shooting 2 FT it looked over but we managed to get the game down to a chance to tie with a 3 point shot by Jok with 2 seconds. Hell of an effort by both teams and the way basketball should be played.

Last as most remaining fans were leaving a few of us stuck around. I really wanted to make a point to our players who were coming off of the floor so I went over by the tunnel. A small group of our fans right above the tunnel were clapping and cheering for our guys as they came off the court to the tunnel entrance along with some celebratory Indiana players. I made a point to clap for each of our players calling them by their name and shouting positive encouragement to each of them; 'keep you head up', 'we are not done yet', 'great effort tonight', 'the season is not over - stay positive', etc. I hit all of the mainline guys JU, MG, Sapp, Woody, Jok, Wagner, Uhl, Williams, Baer, etc. The majority of them had their heads down so i could really see the pain up close and personal. You get a different perspective when you see things in person. All I know is I wanted them to know at least a couple of fans in this fan base appreciate them and to keep fighting until the end. Sometimes they need to feel good about themselves and hear something positive when things are going south.

I'm extremely bummed but I guarantee the people struggling the most aren't the people that were talking about us being a 1 seed. Those people are the positive ones who are now hoping it gets turned around for the tourney. The people jumping off the deep end now are the people who were saying things like "we don't pass the eye test". They weren't even enjoying it when we were winning. Of course they're the ones that are freaking out now.

Windsor is probably the most positive poster on here. Guess what. He's still the most positive poster on here.

Way to support there SpecialHawk! It's the best way a fan can help imo.

Calling out us fans that are disappointed with what has transpired is extremely lame. I am not a band wagon fan, I'll aways be a Hawkeye fan through thick and thin. But to have watched this team take a crap down the stretch has not been fun, especially when this "fan" sees glaring mistakes the coaches and players have made coming down the stretch. Questionable substitutions, defense, clock management, use of timeouts (or the lack there of), ect ect have left this fan smh.

This team IS still very good, we saw a glimpse of that with about 8 minutes left to go in the game as it felt like the lights suddenly came on. I still believe this team is capable of beating anybody.

@SpecialHawk, thanks for sharing your end game experience. I'm not sure this heavy-hearted Hawk fan could have done the same although, OTOH, I wouldn't be doing anything stupid like booing them either.

I actually think this hits the nail on the head. You're never going to get total honesty from a reporter tied to a particular team like you would from an outsider. They're afraid of p*issing off the athletic department and looking like a tool in front of boosters and sponsors. Let's face it, with college sports they have to keep a rapport with those folks to get the access they want. This isn't the Yankees being covered by a major newspaper here. The result is a watered down "observation" of fan reactions where an editorial writer can distance himself from actually having an opinion. The funny thing is, the "fair weather fans" are the only ones who would get upset by a not-so-nice (but honest) column. Real fans who actually follow the team and watch every game would welcome it. I don't see that changing anytime soon so I try not to take any of it seriously.

And really, can you blame them? Don't make waves, write the room temperature stuff to keep everyone happy, and you get to be first name acquaintances of staff and coaches. How long do you think those guys would be getting that kind of access if they called Fran or Kirk out? Of course they're not going to write a negative piece.

Of course a beat writer is going to write in that way. Hardy didn't invent it but sure he did it a lot. Look when things are positive everyone is on cloud 9. Players, coaches fans writers everyone. When things slide then writers jobs become difficult. Do you want them to give their own opinions in a negative light? Well I can see with my own eyes and come to my own conclusions of what to feel. I don't need a reporters opinion to validate mine. So I don't care so much if he wants to write like that. I want stories of what's being said by the players and coaches. And I'll come to my own conclusions. It's getting to be like politics with sports with too many dang analysts spouting off with their two cents. I have a brain. Give me the nuts and bolts of what's going on and being said and I'll make my own opinion. I get tired of others trying to frame what mine should be. Don't get me wrong I like hearing opinions of others (hence why I'm on here) I just don't like them being put down my throat in a way where they come off as their opinions are facts.

Haha. This thread is funny.

Well said. There was a time when I really did believe we could get a 2 seed, and I was enjoying every minute of it. But I don't get why some people call us bandwagon fans when we see things that are very frustrating. Are we all supposed to watch them lose 5 out of 6 in the easier part of their schedule (note I didn't say easy, I said easier than the beginning part) and just say, well they are trying hard. Good job guys. Of course we are frustrated. Do some people take it too far? Probably, but we all get frustrated. At the end of the day, I'll be sitting in front of the tv cheering for the Hawks and hoping the team has turned it around. But I am also always going to call a spade a spade. Places like this are meant for venting frustration, and we as a fan base have the right to be frustrated with losing 4 in a row against less talented teams (with the exception of Indiana of course).
