How to stop concussions and brain damage?

Some have the attitude that nothing can be done because concussions cannot be eliminated. Of course they can never be eliminated, but they certainly can be reduced. They better be. Or this game we love will begin a slow decline as kids are guided in other directions. I pray it's not soccer.:D

Not sure what those links were to prove. Neither does a thing to bolster your position that there is no threat of brain damage from football.

Is that your position? Cause I'm not sure.

I'm not sure they can be reduced, either. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try, but I'm not sure anything we do will be effective.

Indy Car cockpits have been built with cocooned carbon fibers for many years now. Carbon fibers are very strong and lightweight as some concept cars have been built from them. The cockpit is double wall with many crossmembers that absorb the energy of the impact yet keeps in one piece.

Needless to say a lot of indy and F1 drivers would probably be dead over the past how many years if they would not have been in these cockpits.

I can see a double walled helmet with many carbon fibers between the two walls as a mesh that absorb and spreadout the energy of the hit. And as the outer wall or shell is compressed toward the inner wall the inner wall and skull can keep moving perhaps just enough to lower the traumatic impact by even 20%.

I don't think so, brah. Issue is the sudden change of direction. Even with a big pad on a helmet, the skull still decelerates rapidly when a player's head hits the ground or a body part on another player. That deceleration is what drives the squash into the skull, which is where the concussions come from. If Beebe's thing worked, it would have been rolled out already. It's similar to how Earnhardt (allegedly) died. Sudden deceleration is very dangerous.

Are you implying Earnhardt might still be alive, hanging out with Elvis and Michael Jackson? TELL US WHAT YOU KNOW

I think the only thing that can be done then is enforcing rules designed to prevent concussions, but I don't know how effective that will be.

That sounds interesting. Was not aware of this technology.

Roethlisberger started using this helmet a couple of years ago after he got an concussion in KC. Supposedly, it reduces the chances of getting a concussion. Not sure how widely used this helmet is and Roethlisberger is a bit of a goof ball when it comes to injuries so I have no idea how effective this helmet truly is. He hasn't had a concussion since.
